what are the goon recs? prefer something that can carry a week of clothes in 737 (or similar) overhead carry-on format. big bonus for 4 rollers, I've grown too accustomed to give that up.

Timbuk2 CoPilot 2 (two wheels only though) and then I did just get a Rimowa Cabin S... four wheels are nice. Don't think I'll be getting another bag for awhile though, the Rimowa was a splurge + a tiny bit smaller than the Timbuk2.

What's the best in-ear noise cancelling for travel at the moment? Pros? QCs? XMs?

Since I got my AirFly, I've stopped bringing my XH1000XM3 on flights and have just been using the AirPod Pros. The AirFly drops out every now and then... not sure if it's a power thing, but it's a minor inconvenience for the flexibility. I just sleep more on long-haul flights now that the lower battery life doesn't bother me -- my last trip to South Africa with the 17 hour JNB-ATL leg, this setup worked just fine.

Is it weird that I only use Airpods in flight? The only times I wished for noise cancelling headphones is when there's a baby screaming but that's thankfully not happened for a while, now.

I got a Samsonite hardshell recently to replace old luggage and it’s very light, apparently due to using some kind of special material that looks like old mats woven together. It’s a bit pricey though.

I’ve got a business trip to LA coming up. Working location is in Culver City, hotel is in Hollywood. Is this going to be a problem? Other than “horrific traffic” I don’t know the place well or have a good sense of the distances involved.

Other than the major problem what’s the possible problems?

I would change hotels. Makes no sense to be in Hollywood when Culver City is closer to airport and your work.

I use them in the office on the rare occasion I’m at my desk long enough to warrant listening to something… not enough consistent work time for me to invest in a DAC + real closed back headphone setup.

Storms forecast for the Northeast tomorrow and they shove SO GODDAMN MUCH traffic through CLT that the equipment and crew delays will undoubtedly affect other CLT flights.

Random question.

Wife and I are flying MCO-DUB on United with an 80 minute connection in EWR. We paid to upgrade the EWR-DUB leg into Polaris. Due to a slight schedule change, we can switch our flights, and I'm thinking about changing just the MCO-EWR leg to an earlier flight in case something happens (i.e. storms). My question is, would I lose our seats on the EWR-DUB leg? It looks like we'd start the booking process over and select new seats, and I don't want to do that if we can't get our same seats

You wouldn't lose your upgraded seats, but I would make this change through calling, not through the app just in case. Or you can try through the app, but be prepared to call if anything goes wrong.

Generally with these last minute upgrade upsells, the long-haul leg gets rebooked into a different fare code so it's generally safe, but sometimes the rebooking can go haywire because it looks like you're flying 'business' on an 'economy' ticket.

I ended up taking the train from Graz to Vienna and it was very nice.

Flying back through Vienna today and it's the best airport in the world because the boarding pass scanner beeps loudly / flashes red if it isn't your zone. :getin: What amount of unimaginable chaos would occur if US airports flipped on the same setting? (It looks like the same model scanner / hardware, I imagine it is a configuration option).

Also, cheap travel shortcut -- if you're First / Business, that security line is usually short as hell. Saved me today at VIE and also at ZRH in the past... usually cheap as hell to upgrade an intra-Europe leg to first. (Or you can be the antithesis of above and just try to YOLO it anyways, sometimes they check...)

I’ve got more travel alerts for my flight today and the radar for this afternoon looks real bad . I’m familiar with the problems weather causes for flights, but the delays and been really bad lately and I’m not sure why. The storm frequency and intensity haven’t changed much, but there seems to be more travel alerts and delays.

Did that last time; my wife veto'd it for this trip because she was creeped out by it in a Stepford Wives sort of way, plus we have more time with a 2PM arrival than we did last time with a than a 9:30PM arrival before the overnight so she wants to take the train into Brooklyn for dinner and adjacent frivolities. I'd do it again because I am a tremendous nerd. On the other hand, Hyatt points were a good value for that new property with the casino attached.

Do you mean standby or same day change? Assuming it's the latter, simply go and attempt to change your flight. Valid SDC options will have no fare difference.

For international flights, what triggers upgrade with miles availability? The flights I want on Delta only have C+, with PS sold out. Tons of D1 room available but I didn’t get an “upgrade with miles” option at check out. 9 days out from flight.

The short answer is "whenever the team of evil druids that comprise Delta's revenue management department decree it" but the longer answer is all of the complex rules for availability they have on top of the rev management stuff. If you have another carrier on the PNR, you can't do it online. You can call and see what they offer because it may be different than what you see online.

Yeah, the other SEA-LHR route was on Virgin which I figured would make miles tougher. I just wanted the later departure flight / later return which was on Delta... I'll try calling them and see what they can do. I have one GUC left, but I'm not sure how that works in getting C+ to D1 if PS is fully sold out -- I don't want to burn it to just get PS. FWIW the outbound flight has 14 open D1 seats right now... I have 1.4 million SkyMiles and am more than willing to start burning to get what I want.
