Maybe not if you go to tournaments but in my neck of the woods, there are no official gw tournaments, and I'm not rich enough to fly out to them, and people I play with tend to not give a poo poo about that.

They're 28mm scale so they're not exact, nor is it the exact same theme, but, it's skeletons

Fellow Mini Painters!

Let's talk about water jars/cups.

I'm curious what everyone uses to keep water at their painting station? I've been using a terrible old mug that was in the apartment when I moved in. It sucks, but that is just what I've always done. The funny thing is that I work in ceramics and can make pottery/ceramics both at the artisan and industrial levels. Despite that, I put up with this terrible cast mug! I've decided to make my own custom watercup. I'm curious what people use, and what they would want in a cup? I know I want somewhere to rest brushes as I switch between them, plus I want it to be stable, I'm not really sure past that. The water cup has always just been an afterthought to me. Right now I can't really see past the idea that it should just hold water for brushes, nothing more.

What do you use now, and what would you want? Or am I some weird holdout and everyone moved on to something entirely different decades ago?

I use 2 small glass mason jars, one for dirty water, one for slightly dirty water, and then a squirt bottle of water for keeping my wet palette topped up. If I paint with metallics I use only one jar of water for metallics.

"That must weigh heavily on your soul. Let me purge it for you."
Just been using a jar for water, although I'm giving thought to my workspace going forward. It's just so my paints and some kids on my kitchen table right now. I should at least get something to organise my paints, and should probably migrate it all to my office. I've not had any spillages in years but I think twice about painting in a carpeted room, does everyone do hobby stuff over hardwood? I already have a plastic carpet protector for my office chair so perhaps I just want a bigger one of those for when I move over to the hobby table.

I use two Talenti gelato containers for my dirty water and my metallic water. I like them because they are clear and I can see easily at a gland if I need to change the water. Then I have a third container of clean/rinse water. When I rinse the brush it goes into dirty water pot first and then into the rinse water pot, if needed.

I used to use a mustard jar but recently I invested (£3! Price of a jar of mustard) on a collapsible Faber Castell pot. The nice thing is it has grooves on top so you can place a brush across for temp storage. Great when your painting table is a tiny desk.

I’ve got a fancy stainless steel water pot that my wife got me, it got a spring thing that holds your brushes point-down to dry. Before that I used a takeout soup container.

Me too! I bought it years ago on clearance and finally dug it out now to use. Before that it was a random plastic cup or a dedicated fancy brush bin thing from the 80s that my mom had.

Gameenvy.net I think sells the same style collapsible cup for like $10.

I never in my life would have purchased the Official Games Workshop Citadel Water Cup, but, someone gave it to me as a gift and it's actually great.

Flared shape so its hard to knock over, grooves on the inside for squeezing the paint out of your brush, a groove on top for holding your brush when not in use, it says citadel on it so I don't absent-mindedly drink the contents,

I was given a Paint Puck at christmas and it's pretty handy. It's silicone with a clear plastic middle part, it breaks down easily for cleaning, has brush holders around the endge, and a knobbly surface at the bottom for end-of-use brush cleaning.

Doritos salsa jar for water. Its not particularly good salsa, but sometimes you are in the mood for trash, and the jar has a nice low center of gravity (so I'm less likely to spill it) and a nice wide mouth.

The pawsting business is tough work.
If your brush isn't naturally coming to a sharp point when you wet it e: with water, you either have a bad brush, or you haven't been cleaning it properly.
