First heat alert system email came through.

Amber: Significant impacts are probable across the health and social care sector due to the high temperatures, including: observed increase in mortality across the population likely, particularly in the 65+ age group or those with health conditions, but impacts may also be seen in younger age groups; increased demand for remote health care services likely; internal temperatures in care settings (hospitals and care homes) may exceed recommended threshold for clinical risk assessment; impact on ability of services to be delivered due to heat effects on workforce possible and many indoor environments likely to be overheating, risk to vulnerable people living independently in community as well as in care settings; medicines management issues; staffing issues due to external factors (e.g. transport); cross system demand for temporary AC capacity exceeded possible and other sectors starting to be observe impacts (e.g. travel delays).

Yellow: Minor impacts are probable across the health and social care sector, including: increased use of healthcare services by the vulnerable population; increase in risk of mortality amongst vulnerable individuals and increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm.

White: Scotland and Wales won't let us look at their thermometers :( Assume the whole area is SMALL BOTES

Why is London less affected? Isn't that the opposite of the urban heat island effect? Might be missing something v obvious

Is that my cow?

No it isn't, but it still tramples my bloody lavender.
do neither linger nor tarry in the face of ongoing nuclear reactions imo

also remember the second part to the hydration puzzle that people neglect which is you gotta piss more often too, extra water won't do you any good if all it's doing is making your back teeth float

It's a heat trap but it hasn't been heated up much yet- need some consistent heat to manage that, and this year has been fairly tame so far

If you look closely, London occupies a smaller area in the map than the other regions so it's getting less total sunlight, reducing its thermal potential

I assumed that it's going to be just as hot in London but because of better infrastructure there's less overall risk.

I mean sure there's like, roads, and the tube is pretty nice, and there's like... electricity and heating and internet? But how do those help against heat

I wondered if age of the population might have something to do with it - London trends younger than the surrounding areas I think.

To be honest that's much more interesting than another remainer vs leaver debate.

Leavers fascinate me and actually makes me intrigued to watch this. It's like a very pink nature program

i was going to agree but then i realised that the whole country has been “brexit leaver special”
and they’ve still not put forward any concrete ideas, so it’s safe to assume there will never be a conclusion on the brexiteer brexit

at this point remainers are more interesting because what are they thinking now labour are now pro hard brexit and what middle road is even possible at this point? undo brexit is obviously what they want but how?

London has some of the best ambulance response times in the country. You are far more in danger collapsing of heat exhaustion in the middle of the countryside than you are in London.

0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself *sad*. It has, however, made him into a very, very smart boy with something like a university degree in Truth. Instead of building Communism, he now builds a precise model of this grotesque, duplicitous world.
Committing horrendous acts and staying in post as it might all blow over is very inspiring.

This is why the stiff upper lip was invented. So you can look more like "I have just been informed what a 'massive nonce' is by my advisors, and I can speak plainly and say that I do not approve" rather than looking like you've been caught peering into a school window.

I have a few TV series that are permanently on my hard drive so I can watch them at any time.
All the Star Trek series from the 90s.
All Star Gate series.
All MST3K movies.
Some Reeves and Mortimer series.
And Bottom.

Bottom gets watched probably the most, great show.
