The planners may legitimately have incorporated NAFO assumptions that a show of force with their great western wunderwaffen (super nightvision/thermals, LEOPARDS, and FPV drones) would cause the demoralized and ill-equipped orks to flee before them and put the Crimean land bridge in jeopardy.

More proof for my understanding of these people as viewing war as a sort of fever dream of classic rock playing while people vibe to Freedom

Russia probably would have carpet bombed Kiev imo. That kind of escalation would have provoked an existential threat response.

Actually it's much funnier than that, because the abstracted model for infantry attacking prepared positions requires you have superiority of artillery, in addition to that, to even work out how the attack might succeed. The reason being that your 3:1 advantage in infantry will be negated as your infantry is engaged by artillery prior to contact:

Now, the math elaborating this is a bit insane, but those 7 steps encompass the whole theory

and this is of course supported in both of the foundational manuals all artillery officers must know, Land Operations and Field Artillery Doctrine

Which is a very long way of saying, you couldn't even proceed with all of the staff planning, at least as it's laid out doctrinally, without enough of an artillery concentration to achieve at least a local, temporary superiority. You couldn't plan breaching obstacles, the break-in phase, exploitation etc. if the expectation is that you're outgunned the whole time

❗️🇷🇺🇺🇦 Map of AFU losses in Zaporizhzhya direction over the last week

Having analyzed the photos and videos posted in the Net, Rybar's team made a map of losses of the AFU equipment in the Zaporizhzhia direction over the past few days.

A total of 77 tanks, BMPs, APCs, and armored vehicles of the enemy in the areas near Orekhovo and Vremievka were taken out of action by Russian servicemen. The list includes only those vehicles whose destruction or destruction is confirmed by open sources: in reality there are clearly more.

The map does not show vehicles whose location could not be unambiguously geolocated. In particular, one of the AMX-10RC wheeled tanks abandoned by the AFU, three Leopard 2A4s knocked out by FPV drones, one M2A2 ODS Bradley, and about a dozen other vehicles are missing on it.

Much of the enemy's vehicles were hit on the approach to Russian positions, which is the result of tight mines and good cooperation with aviation and artillery. The latter is also supported by the complex defeat of the advancing columns: the detected and uprun vehicles were destroyed by artillery, helicopters, APCs and FPV drones.

📌 All this clearly confirms the high losses of the AFU and refutes the reports about the alleged "insignificant damage". Although by no means all of the equipment was destroyed, a significant portion of it is in the firing range and cannot be evacuated by the enemy to the rear.

At the same time, it is not worth getting overconfident: the Ukrainian formations still have considerable reserves and have not yet carried out a major strike by the 9th and 10th Corps. Nevertheless, over the course of a few days, Russian forces have clearly inflicted substantial damage on them.

lol the US has bought the entire country out at this point

the only thing protecting them from the US coming in and taking everything, bolted down or not, is the war and Russian presence. What a disaster. They're fighting the good fight militarily but they were powerless to stop their 'allies' mercilessly destroying them economically.

The forward defense lines got wiped out in the battle of Kursk too. Imo its still too early to call the outcome of the offensive but attacking into fortified areas with less artillery than the defenders and no air support vs. air support, was never going to be promising even if they delivered the entirety of what Zaluzhny asked for
