A lot of the planning against Russia seems to be as reductionist basic as "We'll capture A, then attack the B point, take that then C will fall like a domino. So simple, victory is assurred!" Then if you ask them "So what if you can't capture the A point?" you just get a blank uncomprehending stare back. "But ze superior vestern technologie!"
