I honestly can't remember when I finally gave up on the simpsons. It might have been the Eva Peron episode. But I think the one where they go to Japan was the beginning of the end.

Like many long running sitcoms, there seems to be way more episodes of the show than you remember. Because I’m pretty sure syndication for some reason only plays a group of randomly selected episodes amounting to like a third of the episode count on a loop, leaving the other two thirds of the episodes lost to time. I noticed the same thing with Seinfeld. It’s bizarre when you were introduced to a series through syndication and you later buy the dvd and discover each season is twice as long and it’s like your getting all new episodes. So it’s much easier to predict next episode when the selection is actually a lot smaller. I swear I’m not crazy.

I definitely remember seeing some episodes a lot more often than others in syndication.

The longer episodes don't get run as often because they can't run as many ads.

Isn’t there some thing uncovered relatively recently that old shows in syndication are actually played sped-up to fit more ad breaks in?

Edit yes and 2015 gently caress what even is time

They didn’t do this back in the 90s though right? When did this start?

this isn't that impressive if your brain is continually running classic Simpsons on a loop

Wait, what was the reason?

Maggie Roswell lived in Denver and had to fly out to record, since they didn't have or care to use remote recording with her. She only made $2000 per episode, while the main cast was at that point getting a massive pay raise to some 6 digit per episode figure. She was basically losing money flying out to record, because fox wouldn't even cover her flight. She asked for a raise to $6000 per episode, they countered with an unknown low ball (likely less than 3000), so she quit. The last few episodes with Maude were done by I wanna say Tress MacNeille before she was blasted to hell.

Maggie Roswell also voiced Ms Hoover and Luanne Van Houten, which is why they were silent for a few years after until eventually Al Jean came back and made it a priority to make things right with Roswell, but it was too far to asspull Maude back from the dead.

Knowing what little I do about the type of team at FOX that had control of the show in the late 90s/early 00s.... their treatment of Roswell does not surprise me even the tiniest bit. By all accounts they were the stereotypical "suits" you see parodied on well... Simpsons and Simpsons-esque shows.
