Also it turns out the reddit admins didn't have to do much because a bunch of mods are already going nuts and basically trying to do ~subreddit coups~ over the blackout and get one another demodded so they can become the head mod instead. The system, it works.

Internet points? the big gaming subreddits are trash and I think the devs are in on it. the only good gaming subreddit I've seen is dwarf fortress because they automod to close thread titles with a ? mark so all questions go in that specific thread and the rest of the submissions are of actual content.

I am not defending Reddit but I want to be criticizing them for the right reasons. They’ve said they will draw a distinction between “NSFW” and porn, and it’s only the porn that third party apps would lose access to. Which is sort of moot anyway since I don’t know that any will survive.

Dumb question, during this whole kerfuffle I realized I basically use Reddit for two things, a glorified RSS reader for world news, tech news, and gaming; and memes. I can get memes here like normal so that means I need news. I downloaded Inoreader and added the subreddits I usually frequent. My question is, am I still “contributing” to Reddit? Would it be better to completely decouple and just add sites themselves to scrape from? Or is it fine to just sort by subreddit for convenience? Side note, my favorite era of GBS was “GBS is not RSS” because it was legit useful to have random news articles posted and a (mostly) civilized goon discussion around them
