loving yea. Need more Irie. Also as an aside I would love to know why Google translates always translates Hikaru Sato's first name as Mitsuru. The kanji for Mitsuru is 美鶴, for Hikaru is 光留 and while I know basically nothing about logographic writing systems those seem different to me.

I just watched the Gatoh Move show where Chris Brookes got hurt and god drat is it just the most innocuous looking spot; reminded me of Shun Skywalker vs Madoka Kikuta with Kikuta's freak injury.

光留 can be read as Mitsuru as well. Kanji can have more readings when used for names, (that's why Japanese students write their names on the blackboard upon introduction, to show the class how their name is written). Like the kanji 愛 is usually read as "Ai" but I've seen it read as "Megumi" when used as a given name. It's just one of those things

2 bits of news I've seen just now: Drew Parker has gone back home as someone in his family isn't well, so they have no idea when he'll return. And the second news is Genichiro Tenryu is out of hospital, he had surgery on a neck issue late last year, then ended up back in hospital in February with septic shock, following a kidney infection. He's 73 now, which is a decent age but considering the life expectancy of a male in Japan is 81, yeah, hopefully he recovers & has a few more decent years in him.

A fairly quiet week, fairly big shows from All Japan & NOAH on Saturday & Big Japan on Sunday. Plus 2AW with a fun card. Other than that, the most notable thing is that on the Thursday NOAH show they should be announcing the N-1 field. So far what we know is no Kaito Kiyomiya.

Watching this show just now. The opener was a lot of fun, hearty laughs at the beginning when Ren Ayabe & Oji Shiiba were stood next to each other, that was a hell of a height difference. Real fun match and a nice and surprising finish.

The 6 man tag match with 2 wrestlers you'd ever want to see was what you expect. Gorgeous Matsuno wrestling anywhere but DDT just doesn't work, even for this totally worthless title. No idea who this Black Tiger is, some random indy guy I'd assume. Could he be that rotten guy who was in Purple Haze, Devil Murasaki? Certainly no Eddie Guerrero, Rollerball Rocco or Silver King.

Love that Onita always has a bandage on his forehead, I assume because a light breeze causes him to start bleeding from it. Anyway, explosion match was not exactly a classic but it was some super dumb nonsense with really loving big bangs as things exploded and what else can you ask from this sort of match? Nice shots of sone big clouds of smoke going into the heaven and bangs loud enough that you'd imagine they'd have hurt for the wrestlers in the ring

Watching yesterday's All Japan show and so goddamn hype for Anzai's title challenge. All in on that boy getting rocketed to the top

And Kohei Sato's in the next match, that might even make the Saito brothers worth watching. Shame KONO is being dragged down by the act, he's been pretty drat good in the Tenryu project shows i've seen

e: That main event absolutely hosed, the next challengers should be an absolute cracker as well

Jake Lee announced he plans to win the N1 as Champion - somebody educate me because I'm not as familiar with NOAH's stuff: is the title on the line during N1 matches or is it like the G1 where a win over the champion is usually an excuse for a future title match regardless of who wins the tournament?

Spoilers relate to the Green Journey show, for those who haven't seen it yet.

Like the G1. The prize is a title shot, and when the champ's lost he's defended against the opponent/s. Frequently the title's changed hands when the champ's fought an opponent he lost to then and loses again (2011 Go vs Morishima, 2012 Morishima vs KENTA, 2013 KENTA vs Morishima, 2018 Sugiura vs Kaito)

2015 is the only time the champ was in the tournament and didn't lose to anyone (Minoru Suzuki, had 2 draws)
2017 Eddie Edwards, 2019 Kaito and 2021 Marufuji are the only times the champ hasn't been in the tournament; Eddie was the only time that wasn't a voluntary decision by the champ, since he was obviously employed by and obligated to TNA at the time NOAH decided to give him the belt

Honestly one of the best multiman matches in wrestling. Obviously the trios from ROH are better known in the west because they happened in an American company & Dave watched it & raved, but it's such a good showcase of what I guess you'd call the classic Dragon System match. Nice to have it in good quality & hopefully it having English commentary helps let it be seen much more widely

DG is releasing a cool new series free on Youtube & DGN: A lot of the old Toryumon content never had English commentary, so they're releasing classic matches with new English comms from Jae & Ho Ho. Their first is one of the most insanely paced sprints I've ever seen, and it set the pace for trios matches going forward.

2003.8.30 - UWA World Trios Championship 4-way Elimination:
[Shin M2K] Masaaki Mochizuki, Dragon Kid, Kenichiro AraiŠ vs. [Crazy MAX] CIMA, SUWA, Don Fujii vs. [Do FIXER] Magnum TOKYO, Susumu Yokosuka, Genki Horiguchi vs. [Italian Connection] Milano Collection A.T., YOSSINO, Kondotti Shuji

Legit one of my favorite matches ever. Top 5 for sure.

Nice to have it in good quality & hopefully it having English commentary helps let it be seen much more widely
I used to have it on VHS back in the day, and it's so cool to finally see HD quality. The Toryumon category on DGN is worth the sub alone, and they keep adding to it - though some matches are clipped.

Once a month they've been putting up a Toryumon TV show episode from the start. And eventually they'll get to episodes of Infinity. The pace is infuriating but hey, it's something

for the record, Nakajima has faced Kento thrice before in singles matches, all in Kensuke Office/Diamond Ring, and Nakajima has won every time (the last by TKO)

that said, they haven't faced off for over a decade now, and Nakajima and Kento have both refined and reinvented themselves since, especially since they've both won world titles on multiple occasions, so this could go either way

this'll be a good match, anyway

Another free classic, though quite a bit newer, featuring some of the best names in wrestling:

Dangerous Gate 2015 - Unit Disbands Match: Mad Blankey vs Jimmyz
[Mad Blankey] Naruki Doi, YAMATO, Cyber Kong, K-ness, Problem Dragon
-vs-
[Jimmyz] Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!!, Jimmy Susumu, Ryo Jimmy Saito, Jimmy Kanda, Mr. Kyu Kyu Naoki Tanizaki Toyonaka Dolphin

If you're not aware of the story of the last name:
Naoki Tanizaki was injured, so T-Hawk came in as a heel version called Naoki Tanisaki. The real Tanizaki came back and they feuded over their name, but whoever won would get to pick the loser's new name. T-Hawk won and kept calling himself Naoki Tanisaki for a while, but he renamed the real one Mr. Kyu Kyu Naoki Tanizaki Toyonaka Dolphin because he cries like a dolphin ("kyu kyu") about his name and he's from Toyonaka.
