AreWeDrunkYet posted:Even ignoring the initial altercation, holding the choke long after the other guy was unconscious makes it an easy manslaughter vote if I’m on that jury. That is what gets me. You know when someone goes out when choking them. It doesn't take much sense/effort to relax that hold to not kill someone. If you can't tell if the guy you are choking out is out, you probably shouldn't be choking people.

To clarify my point, I certainly don't think a jury would convict of murder and because this reality sucks they probs won't convict on manslaughter either. But in my opinion, that veteran murdered a homeless man in cold blood while people watched

He wasn't screaming that he was gonna kill anyone. The guy choked him as he said he was okay with dying. He wasn't violent. He got murdered for having a mental breakdown. This is practically saying that people beaten by cops while screaming about 'stop resisting' had it coming. The onlookers were begging the vet to not kill him and let him go. They didn't feel threatened at all.

Everyone who spent any significant amount of time on a NY subway spent about five seconds looking at him, thought "No knife, no gun, not swinging at anybody. Wonder what's on Netflix tonight?" All reporting on the topic I've heard is nobody besides Captain Chokehold, Murderer Esquire, felt "threatened" enough to do anything besides maybe give him some extra space and spent the whole time of his murder trying to get Sir Chokesalot to let the gently caress go.

Like with 99.9% of the dumb poo poo Trump does after being advised not to, all he had to do was say "those are my documents but if you want it back then gently caress it, I'll still complain," and nothing would have happened. And the fact he has no restrictions on travel, didn't have to surrender his passport, or any number of other special circumstances that a regular federal defendant would have be under. Seeing RWM spin it as "they can come for you," is hilarious as if I kept classified material, they would have sent NCIS to truncheon me, take it back, and then see me put in a cell for a long long time

Really hoping the country as a whole learns how to deal with narcissistic lies from all this. The default, ground level response to everything Trump says needs to begin from the point of "This is self-serving bullshit and lies, why are you saying it and what do you expect to get out of it?"

Legal Eagle has released his take on the Trump indictment, and while it didn't really bring up anything new, it did raise one interesting point. The documents used in the indictment must be read by the lawyers as part of discovery, so there is every chance that the ones chosen are not the worst or most damaging things stolen. Which is, uh, all kinds of bad.

Comrade Blyatlov posted:I might be paraphrasing wrong, I watched it before bed last night, but the point about having to choose the least damaging docs was a big old from me This has been pretty heavily implied in a few other law-based podcasts I've been listening to. The prevailing wisdom is they're the least damaging ones because Trump can never shut his fat gently caress narcissistic gob so there's a pretty fair chance their contents become more widely known as well as the ones that made for the best case against ol' Trumpy. Think stuff like the table of contents labeled "THE NUCLEAR SECRETS YOU JACKASS KEEP THIS SECRET" but then not putting the rest of the pages in as evidence. There's simply no way that smarmy poo poo stain stopped at stealing only 30-some documents. Edit: I do want to add that the charges filed against him very, VERY specifically have absolutely nothing to do with their classification. Nothing. At all. Period. Zip. Zilch. Zero. Nadda. They saw the dumpy dumbfuck's "psychic mind bullets of declassification" arguments coming a mile away and the charges have nothing to do with that. They wanted to cut that off at the pass and make the trial multiple years shorter by not even making that accusation. He *cannot* make that defense, he is not being charged for it. If you're charged for carjacking someone, saying "Your honor I clearly did not run that red light in the car. I must be innocent!" doesn't fly. bird food bathtub fucked around with this message at 21:44 on Jun 15, 2023 |

Security clearance or not, you're going to want to limit how many people are exposed to those documents, that's basically the whole idea behind compartmentalization.
