So am I right that cutting or not raising rates won't really help any more than rising them did? Yeah I mean I'd like people to have free money but it wasn't anyone making less than six figures getting much of that.

Actually wasn't low rates why they were able to buy up all the houses in the first place? Like faster than usual specifically. Feels like they're trying to balance in the head of a pin to keep themselves upright, but that they'll eventually just get poked even if they succeed.

The minute rates are lowered, prices will be ratcheted up with the rationale that "you were buying houses when rates were high so you can afford even more now!"

House prices will never go down again.

This is completely meaningless and people quit buying houses when rates were high, but reality doesn't matter

At happy hour yesterday I discovered that detergent sheets are the new hotness for doing laundry.

I hate hate hate dryer sheets & the stink they rode in on to the point where I have to close my windows if someone's running the dryer with them in the basement but the old girls swore that these are neither stinky nor clothes-slickening.

Granted, smell is my superpower & I can tell by passing by someone on the street whether they wash their clothes in Tide bc my gag reflex kicks in.

The washer sheets certainly are economical as well as ecological so I just ordered my first pack of 'em since I'm almost out of liquid detergent. Has anyone else been using them or is this some boomer-only trend?
just use this instead a half tablespoon in your wash and they smell like grapefruit out the dryer

Pretty good/long article on Canada's housing market. It's full on serfdom for renters.

And as a renter, Jardine senses an invisible wedge between her family and the neighbours. She wonders why she’s putting so much into a community she knows she’ll one day be forced to leave: “I feel a kind of desperation. And I’m also very bitter about it. I don’t want to go.”

Yup, and unfortunately for them what that means is that the gyrations are gonna get worse until enough of those jackassses get bucked off. Like hell they won't try to make everyone miserable while they do so (not that this hasn't reached the point where it may very well be hastening the inevitable rather than postponing it), but it's gonna happen.

drat that sucks lol, one the one hand they are honest but on the other it's somewhat inconsiderate to flaunt it like that? It makes me think everyone should just admit to themselves that you're not getting poo poo for inheritance. There are multiple powerful entities ahead of you in line to take all of your parents/grandparent's wealth before they die, don't worry about it.

quickly invent a money holding scheme if they trust you at all, and try and cut in the fin advisor guy. see if he has any ideas for a money containment/investment opportunity that might keep funds occupied for a prolonged period of time. naturally it will need a manager or executor or what have you. property?
