It's not hard to get 5-7% ROI in general index funds p consistently, and even right now you can use HYS or CD's to get like 5% that are literally fdic insured impossible to lose outside of complete gov collapse. 5% of a million is 50k, 2.2mil would be 110k annually. Dunno about you but I'd consider that p livable, with a large nest egg behind it and enough income to keep saving. It'd probably be a good idea to just do whatever job you feel like and have income on top of that so you could be safe with it but it would certainly remove the whole food/shelter equation from your life. Healthcare would be the sticking point though.
