It's only $12 AUD at the moment (probably about $80-100 with shipping), so I'm kinda tempted...

It even has 2x the amount of strings that are needed

I dunno about extra long but gimme that 34, or what ever is the standard bass length. For some reason I find the longer scale more comfortable. I do notice the slight shortness of a ric as well but do my best to just deal with it.

My 34" stingray is tuned to C and I only use 115? I run into this with guitars too, people like "unff yeah gimme that 27" multiscale so I can detune" and I have a 24" mustang also tuned to C with 12's, idk do people just love high tension or what. I wanna bend two whole steps if I want to

It's because they had the CNC machines and could make stuff for everyone else. FujiGen used their services for years to make Fender guitars/basses (and I suspect got the machines after Matsumoko folded), and they weren't the only ones.

I think I use 110 and it's probably a little too floppy if I'm being honest about it. I prefer higher tension though I think.

One of my other guitars has 105s and works fine in E and C tuning without rattles or buzzes.

Having a properly set up guitar helps.

I finally got around to mic the strings on the Greco-Ric, and it’s already on 45/65/85/105. It’ll make an easy swap over to rounds without a proper setup to at least try them out for an afternoon.

Darkglass Tone Capsule goes into the Shaguar tonight.

Hey bass thread, not a bass player but I just scored what looks like a half decent bass amp. Ampeg B-15N? Any good? Powers up!

You can't see it very well but one of the tubes glows.

Okay, I don't have a bass but I tested it with my guitar and both channels work. there is a little noise, especially if I turn the treble all the way up. And aside from that, it appears to work. I haven't tried turning it all the way up yet, but even at a low volume it sounds powerful. I'm going to put it up at the musicians' gear thread and at the SA Mart, but given the price I paid for it I'm willing to let go of it for considerably less than I'm seeing these for at Reverb or ebay. Make me an offer. And I am looking for some pieces of gear myself and may consider a swap, but I'm more of a synth person than a bassist, so that may give a better idea of what I'm looking for.

Ampegs are great. Pretty sure that's the one I use when I go to my local paid rehearsal space.

E: did some reading on it. It's a classic amp but it's wattage is only 30. So great for creating a classic sound during a recording session or something but not for gigs.

Where are you located? Shipping on an amp like that will be $$$ not to mention a little risky, so you may be limited to someone willing to pick it up (I may be that someone if you're somewhat near Philly).

Make sure you plug it in with a load, or a speaker cable connected to the right ohm cabinet when you turn it on

drat thank you for adding that, they should print that on the back or something. Or maybe they do and I ignored it. Fortunately I have only turned it on when it was plugged into this monster speaker. I will take a few more pics of it this afternoon and consider some options. I think this has turned out to be a bigger deal than I had imagined. My wife just had little dollar signs pop up in her eyes too, jeez.

It's only really a concern with older tube amps, sending a hot signal to the transformer with nowhere for it to go. Newer amps have fancy dummy load switches built in.

Very cool amp though

Oh hey been listening to prog rock with my sibling. Where was I, pictures. I'll get a few more of them, get a better look at that speaker. Oh, that other one I had was a TKO 65, not operating, physically looks good at a glance. Been sitting in the garage behind a pile of lumber for a few months. Anybody that comes for the Ampex can have the TKO as well if they want something to fix up.

But I'm getting ahead of myself, I need to start a sale thread and put my name in the pics. Be back in a bit, playing w the synths RN.

From the looks of the logo and the fact that it's a Magnavox-era Ampeg, it'd be anywhere from '71-'85... So yeah, it definitely needs to have a load connected.

Looking for a good bass amp recommendation. I'm familiar with Carvin, Peavy, and other solid state amps. I'm not playing professionally anymore, but I'd like a good quality thing to have fun with. I haven't kept up with technology or the market so I don't know what's up. I think I'm looking for a combo, the amp plus speaker set.

e: Just loving around at home, don't need to fill a stadium. Somewhere in the $300 to $1000(?)+ range.
