I'll withhold judgment because it might set up something else with Pike or introduce a lasting problem with Spock through the season, but yeah it seemed forced to hit on "hey let's do that thing what that happens and it can't be trek without it" like the stealing the Enterprise in Picard... and in search for spock... and in TOS... and in TNG...

A silly little mouse!
When you think about it the Enterprises self destruct in Search for Spock was terribly designed. After all that cool pyrotechnics all it did was blow up maybe half the saucer section. It left something like 80% of the ship still intact. And it was all the techy parts like the warp core that an enemy would want far more than the mess hall or sleeping quarters that actually got blown up. Kirks lucky there was a nearby planet for it all to burn up in atmosphere.

Self destruct was obviously just designed to get rid of crews space porn collections.

Tech fluff is that they used a destruct sequence designed to burn out the ship but not make much of a bang. There's more thorough destruct options but they can be hazardous to your surrounds.

Watching TNG S1 for the first time recently was eye opening on just how awkward it started. Also too bad about Tasha Yar. It would have been cool to see the character grow with the show. They put her in some super weird stuff while she was there and Crosby rolled with it.

I've been watching the TNG episode where Worf is hopping timelines and forever LOL when he has the conversation with Troi and formalizing her being Alexander's guardian if anything happens to Worf because of the look on his face when Troi says "Technically, wouldn't that make my mother your step-mother?"

Lwaxana's troll powers are incredible.

DS9 singlehandedly redeemed Lwuxana by turning her from a boundary-overstepping rear end in a top hat into someone who has empathy for others, the transformation was clever because it doesnt take away the rear end in a top hat parts, so you can go back to TNG and enjoy her character in it.

But, having only seen the TNG parts up until recently, she was really good at playing someone i absolutely hated

Yeah she’s slightly more tolerable on DS9 but still bad, from the start felt like Roddenberry using her to make clunky “visiting in-laws” sitcom jokes.

Another version of the Roddenberry tax is “Rod Roddenberry” getting executive producer credit for Strange New Worlds. Skimming his credits, very fond of scuba diving & getting his check then not being in the way.

That’s not what they were doing?

They were secretly relieved that Spock went rogue and prevented a renewed Federation/Klingon war because they are now worried about a war with the Gorn

Lwaxana is great. Yes she’s annoying but very real at the same time. And the episode that starts with Troi’s log saying “My mother is in board” the cutting to Picard looking all stressed before walking into a corridor is the funniest start to any episode hands down.

The wedding meal is great, Data saying please continue your petty bickering owns. Also the end of Lwaxana wedding episode (can’t recall if that meal is Troi or Lwaxana) where she comes out nude is just the perfect payoff to that whole episode and absolutely perfect for her character.

Mr. Honn is a great foil for her, brilliant writing to play off her with him being mute.

Having said all that her banging the ferengi to save her and Riker ? was unfortunate and awkward watching with my kid. Guess poo poo happens even in ST. Not as bad as Tasha Yar talking about rape gangs right before coming on to data ; still not sure what she was saying exactly.

Non, je ne regrette rien

I like Lwaxana better than I like most Lwaxana episodes. The episodes themselves tend to play as broad comedy with sex jokes, none of which are really the TNG writers' strengths. But Majel is having a lot of fun with the character, and the way she breezes in and fucks with everyone's usual composure, and the way the regular cast plays off her, is entertaining.

Oh no, what IS wrong with her brain chemicals? Wait, why was she deleting journal entries?... Oh... Oh god...."

So Here: https://www.handitv.com/allstartrek/next-generation/qa/whats-the-origin-of-picards-signature-phrase-make-it-so Agrees with you.

quote:

Make it so" was a standard phrase used by British naval officers. It can be seen in context on page 74 of this Google book scan of Frederick Marrayat's 1832 seagoing novel "Newton Forster": Newton Forster: Or, The Merchant Service, Google Books.

quote:

When George. Ill, was on board a yacht, the Captain reported, "Please your Majesty, it is twelve o'clock;" but fearing that this might be deemed too pretumptous an assertion, even prefaced as it was, and to remind him of his royal prerogative, to "make it so." humbly added, "but not unless your Majesty pleases." (Army and Navy Chronicle, October 26, 1837)

It also just has a very commanding old timey navy sound, which works with Picard well.

Picard series 4 should have the neck bulging parasite bugs from series 1 of TNG that were set up as being a huge villain for the show then disappeared after they saw how bad the episode sucked. That should be the entire series.

That makes sense, for legal purposes you can say they died from the cold vacuum of space.

Which makes me wonder, why didn't the crew just use the transporters to beam out the bad guys to space whenever they inevitably tried to take over the ship?

I think it’s part of the show being forced to underplay how absolutely broken transporters should be in combat to allow for plot.

And replicators. If you follow through with the logic of what they both can actually do it's sort of crazy, they're just absurdly powerful technologies .

Seem to recall one of the writers saying how much they hated replicators as they should really solve so many problems really easily.
