Interesting. I wonder if the same logic would apply to other world boss drops like Dreadtooth mask and uhhhh that might be it

The question is, good news or bad news for our beloved game?

EXTREMELY PISSED AT THE DNC
This is quite a surprise.

Bioware Austin will be dismantled as over half of the studio will be moving to Boardsword and the rest have to find new positions in the company or be laid off.

I feel like it's going to really suck in the short-term while they lose really good people, but ultimately be really great for the game in the long run. Getting out from under a studio that just doesn't care about you and wishes you weren't a thing, and going somewhere that will be genuinely excited to have you there will be so freeing for that team.

Yeah that's the optimistic take. I'm a little iffy based on the reputation Broadsword seems to have as a MMO dumping ground, but the fact that Bioware staff is going with them is a good sign to me.

Broadsword is an dumping ground only in that old MMOs get to continue living there. The top guy was initially involved in SWTOR (and DAoC) so it’s very unlikely to be a cynical cash move and they’ve done fairly well by the other games so far. Though it’s a little harder to measure the potential success of SWTOR under them until we know more since Broadsword’s other games have emulation lives much more popular than the remaining live clients.

Reading opinions online is not advisable.

That being said, considering that Broadsword has a good deal of experience running MMOs and is apparently run by an actual SWTOR veteran, while most of the people currently working on it at BioWare are expected to move to Broadsword, I'm reasonably optimistic.

Bioware is a company that hates the things that brought in the most money. They hated swtor and they hated good writers. I will always remember fondly the bioward of 1998 thru like 2012. That's the Bioware that made me excited about games. Frankly these days the company that makes me the most excited is Capcom lol

Who would have thought it would be this tough to give SW:TOR money, getting the seemingly rampant (per google search results) "There is an issue with your Electronic Arts account which will prevent SWTOR purchases until resolved.".

Tried resetting each account password with no luck, any solution to this that doesn't involve waiting until Monday for EA support to reopen?

I had that happen at some point. I vaguely remember it being some weirdness with my password having changed on SWTOR but not on Origin so there were two competing "correct" passwords linked to the same email or some poo poo like that. It's a very uninformative error message that has a bunch of causes though. Have you been able to login to the website directly?

Hope your issue's got/will shortly be resolved, xilni. ~ thoughts and prayers ~

Anyway!

:siren: Patch notes for update 7.3 are out! :siren:

The highlights:

quote:

  • Story Update - “Old Wounds” - This story update brings players to the Wild Space planet, Voss. Players will join the “Shrine Restoration Initiative” alongside Voss and Gormak to explore the Interpreter’s Retreat, a previously unseen landing zone.
  • New Flashpoint: “Shrine of Silence” - In this new Flashpoint, players will team up with one Voss Commando to rescue two Mystics who disappeared in the perilous ruins of Shrine of Silence.
Players do not need to complete the Voss storyline to access this Flashpoint available in all modes. More details here.
  • Credit Economy Initiative - Additional changes have been implemented to correct some of our economic inflation such as the removal of Tax Evasion Guild Perk, new transaction fee, and adjusted Vendor sale values on many items. More details in this forum post.
  • Progression changes - Changes have been made to the Gear progression to reduce its complexity. Amongst the changes, we’ve removed the Daily Resource Matrices and changed several currency caps. More details can be found here.
  • Combat changes - In addition to the changes listed above, we’ve also made balance changes on several classes. Full details of these changes in the “Combat Styles” section of the patch notes.
  • Nar Shaddaa Nightlife - The Nar Shaddaa Nightlife event is back! This new edition of Nar Shaddaa Nightlife will begin on July 11th until August 22nd 2023 (12:00 PM GMT). During this event, players will be able to test their luck at one of our casinos and earn new rewards inspired by the High Roller Shades. More information here.
  • PvP Season 3 “Reign of Glory” - The new PvP Season starts on July 18th! This new season brings changes on PvP maps and new rewards such as the Sandstorm Soldier Armor Set and Stronghold decorations. More information here.
Obviously the only important thing here is that the Nightlife event will have new rewards inspired by the High Roller Shades. :getin: :rory:

Apart from that, there's the usual plethora of bugfixes of course (one of particular note, arguably, is that the Starship hook outside the Mek-Sha stronghold can now be seen and interacted with).

A hero on the EA forums was able to point me in the right direction.

Somehow the “associated” EA account had a completely different email address for login and that was the one that had to be reset. Note for everyone who finds this with the same issue, go password reset EA accounts with every email address you’ve ever used, no matter how infrequently.

Is SWTOR not considered an "Open World" game? Just keep seeing Star Wars Outlaws claiming it will be the first. Not sure what the term means if SWTOR doesn't qualify.

It means it's Assassin's Creed/Uncharted/Skyrim/Whatever-like with no MMO controls.

It’s not the most ironclad definition but yeah, being an MMO, having a bunch of separate smaller maps, not having a bunch of random garbage scattered around the map. MMOs, especially stuff like WoW with its huge continents are definitely early progenitors of the idea but it’s just not really considered the same thing.

Release my children! My hat is truly great and mighty.

There's a case to be made for SWG being a fairly proper open world game, in the "here's a big sandbox, off you go" sense.

Anyway, having completed the single player content of 7.3 aside from the FP (didn't get round to it yet), I have to say that I found it pretty entertaining and I rather like how many missions they squeezed into the new area on Voss and how varied they are, but good grief even my patience with the main plot is starting to wear a little thin. While it's nice that we now know a little more about Darth Nul, this teasing us with ominous portents and mysterious riddles is getting silly. 7.4 had better start making actual stuff happen.

Are we finally the main characters of our own stories again, or is it just another “come along with OC Do Not Steal so they can show you how cool they are” chain like the last several?

It's basically just you in 7.3. There's some familiar characters in the cutscenes, natch, but you're not there to follow their lead.

Cythereal posted:

It's not communicated very well, but it's the same principle as on Manaan: open the galaxy map, go to (in this case) Voss and then select the other area to be transported there.

It helps with implants etc., but you do know that you can just get one character to unlock blue 336 mods and then buy them for any other character right? That ultimately takes care of most of the gearing-up hassle.
