cracker posted:I live in mar Vista on the edge of Santa Monica so my local Costco about three miles away would be marina del Rey. I'm sure it's cheaper than the ones right by it but I just checked the app and it's the exact same price of the gas station near me ($4.39 a gallon still sucks). Just my experience there is usually a gas station close by that has prices pretty similar was just curious if that is different elsewhere. Oh god this Costco is the worst. Hate going to it.

Had this costco octo in the fridge for a couple months finally grilled it and made some tacos was pretty good but not sure I'd get it again. Comes pre cooked in a blister pack type thing and has a pretty long use by life as long as you keep it in the fridge.

You had seafood in the fridge, not freezer, for several months, and then you're gonna say it's not that good? This bird must pay for food crimes against humanity.

Bonus points for the spoon filled with unidentifiable gloop. DiomedesGodshill fucked around with this message at 04:04 on Jun 19, 2023 |

It's pasteurized and packaged, the best by date is september. If you buy a can of tuna do you think you have to use it the same day?

That gloop is pretty easily identified

I can't imagine how horrible the texture would be of frozen octopus grilled.

I'll give you a hint, seafood in cans or retort pouches don't need to be refrigerated, but your vacuum bag seafood still does. Because things are happening to it. Maybe it's fine, I just take exception to you thinking it's fair to review it like that. If you've had it a few months and it's best by is September, then by definition it's half-past fresh.

It was refrigerated you tit. It's not fair to review it using it as directed, nowhere near it's best by date, for a product that literally advertises its long shelf life?

Maybe i should have microwaved it instead of grilling it would that have been more "fair"

Well guess what maybe they should have tightened up that best by date because I'm starting to feel like I've got octopus diarrhea

as far as costcos with lovely parking lots, here's one near my area I always dread going to even tho it's probably the best 'co to shop in the city: -only two ways to get in/out of the parking lot and one of them shares it with the gas guzzlers -half the parking lot is at an incline -not enough parking spots for how big it is

Oh what's the word with the broom? Bird I think you're right for using it and I would bet even fresh in the vac sealed package would be the same. My wife won't eat octopus and I've not had it a lot so I'll probably never get it to make at home.

People don't realize that octopus lasts a very long time in the fridge. People also don't realize that octopus tentacles will grow fun multi-colored fur patches for months after death. It takes a little bit to grow in, but it really changes the flavor profile in exciting ways.

I feel like some people in this thread don't understand that this: is not the same as this: and they don't need to be treated in the same manner. Like if waiting a month makes your crab (or octopus, or whatever) lovely then the manufacturer should probably put that on the packaging rather than touting its long shelf life.

Having to shamefully discard of something you bought and either couldn't finish all of it or just forgot about it before it expires is a costco food tradition.
