Why did they go with carbon fiber for the pressure vessel? Cost? Weight? Did Elon do it for his space ships?

But then the rivets all came free
And that's about the time the walls caved in on me

From a few similar stories quite often they die of hypothermia before oxygen becomes a factor. Sometimes it is air related though.

Considering the new info on the porthole rated to 1300 meters (titanic is at 4000) they are almost certainly billionaire pâté now.

Also a cylindrical design for a submersible that goes that deep is a terrible decision and there is a reason why all other deep diving submersibles are spheres. It works for military subs because they are much shallower vessels comparatively.

Here's what a cool looking non grover version looks like:

https://tritonsubs.com/subs/gullwing/?dc=pro

This is so much cooler, and you'll actually be able to see stuff not through lovely screens and probably survive. If you're a billionaire, why would you fork out Ł250k for the home-made version? I'm sure you can buy a trip in this with the right money!

Someone did the math earlier and the compression would ignite the air in the sub and it would burn at like 200,000 degrees for an instant, so before they became goop they were flash fried.

Well if it didn't cause the fire you'd definitely barely register that water coming at you and shredding you. Assuming you're 4 feet away you'd have about 13milliseconds or a blink's worth of time before splat.
E: no wait a blink is 100ms, nvm. They'd just blissfully splat.
Ee: apparently you can register 13ms, sucks to suck.
