okay so you know how physics break down as you approach the speed of light

what if instead of going so fast you break physics, you go so fast you break narrative causality and can do anything

If you want to talk psychosexual Batman movies, Joel Schumacher is right there.

Was a whole discussion in the dread snyderdome that psychosexual weirdness is so inherent to Batman as a character that every single version, including Nolan's usually chaste style and The Lego Batman Movie, has something distinct going on with it. It's a really fun theme to play with.

its even funnier that no matter how many times james gunn makes movies with a significantly worse financial output the suits just continue to double down on his terrible vision that no one likes because how could the guy who made the guardians of the galaxy movies be wrong about anything everybody loves those movies

i watched demon 76 because somebody a few pages back was talking it up and yeah thats about where i was with it i was disappointed that the main obvious question of "how credible is the demon really" never comes up despite his whole backstory of the apocalypse being what happens if he fails his initiation exercise not making any sense

The way they taught people's about the US Civil War was all hosed up and dumb for decades. Watch that Ken Burns doc that everyone loved, the central thesis is that the Civil War happened because of a lack of compromise. As if there was any compromise that the South would've accepted.

The way we teach it is better now.

A silly little mouse!
Basically in the comics the Speed Force is the higher dimensional energy that powers all movement in the universe. Thus the more of the Speed Force is in a thing, the faster it moves. The Flash’s powers are that he gained the ability to directly tap into it and thus can go really really fast. And the more of it he uses the faster he goes, but if he uses too much he runs the risk of disintegrating into pure Speed Force (this is treated like becoming a Force Ghost in Star Wars).

One time he used so much he won a race against a guy with instantaneous teleportation.

Another time he outran the grim reaper because dying is something that happens at light speed and the Speed Force is not bound by light speed since it is the source of the very concept of movement.

Since friction is a function of movement the Speed Force protects you from it if you run fast, the Flash can transfer this property to things he is touching.

For a short example of the Flash popping off, here he is punching Lex Luthor in the balls so fast that he nearly dematerializes.

i honest to goodness thought that was a dream sequence or something at first i dont know whats more insane the way the whole sequence is played off like a sitcom bit or how this incident that had nothing to do with mysterio one hundred percent backs up his argument that spider man a literal teenager shouldnt be trusted with an all powerful drone army just because a dead rich guy who was kind of an rear end in a top hat said so

There's a surprising amount of consistency about this. His powers work like that so his neck isn't broken by the recoil, and his entire body is immune to his own beams so he doesn't blast his own eyelids off. His brother Havok with very similar powers also seems to draw them from the same place, making them immune to each others' blasts too.

The way we teach it is better now.

Yea every dumbass independently comes up with the compromise "what if they just paid the slave owners to gradually free their slaves?" like no one in history ever thought of that. Benjamin Franklin supported that compromise being put forth before Congress during Washington's first term and it was considered so disgraceful that when he died a month later there was no public mourning for him, his body didn't lie in state, etc etc, for the second most prominent man of his time. It was the standard line for most abolitionists up until the South started the Civil War and always rejected. There was no compromise possible.

Like what if we said "let's just pay the capitalists to abolish exploitation". Same idea.

The other thing that came up in that Radio War Nerd episode is that all the 60s and 70s era Civil War media was tainted by the Vietnam War, so they always portrayed it as a fruitless endeavour with no morally correct sides etc which is both the wrong lesson to apply to the Civil War and the wrong lesson to learn from Vietnam (there was a morally good side in that war, it was not remotely ambiguous)
