I didn't mean The Big One when I said start the countdown. I just thought it was a matter of time until Ukraine attacked the nuclear plant. Good job signalling that this is the one weird trick to get NATO directly involved that Ukraine has been looking for for 1,5 years now though guys. Really feeling so much safer here.

Even if this resolution ultimately fails or NATO doesn't get involved directly when push comes to shove, I feel like this has guaranteed that Ukraine will make at the least a very serious attempt to blow up the nuclear plant.

Congressional resolutions aren't worth the paper they're printed on. They're about as powerful as UN resolutions. It's an expression of sentiment and little else. Like, congress can't compel the Executive branch to enforce that resolution, the president would have to go along with it voluntarily.

There's pretty much zero chance that Biden tries triggering Article 5 because the Ukrainians blew up Zaporizhia PP. Going to war with Russia ourselves is what we've been trying to avoid the whole time, and we're not about to change course while the US government is so preoccupied with China.

It's not even physically possible for NATO to go to war with Russia. What are we going to do it with? All of Europe's stockpiles have been sent to Ukraine. Are the Latvians going to do cross border raids with the 2 helicopters they don't have?

Yeah you're probably right. It would be extremely funny to watch an American carrier sink in the north Atlantic though. Horrifying for the people on board, a harbinger of untold carnage to come, but also the definitive death of American military hegemony. So funny in an In the Mouth of Madness way

It would only be funny if the sinking happened because two US carriers crashed into each other because both navigators were blind drunk.

Indian Refiner Could Buy Russian Crude Priced Off Dubai Benchmark

quote:

India’s state-owned refiner Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is in advanced talks with Rosneft to buy nearly 44 million barrels of cheap Russian crude priced off the Dubai benchmark, Reuters reported on Friday, quoting sources with direct knowledge of the discussions.

The talks between BPCL and India’s now-top crude supplier, Russia, have progressed to an advanced stage with details including terms of payment being hashed out, according to Reuters’ sources.

The crude that Rosneft is expected to sell to BPCL would be priced at $8 a barrel below the Dubai benchmark, they added.

$8 discount based on Dubai benchmark pricing would be $67 per barrel. That's above the "price cap" the West has tried to impose.

Ukraine is currently winning in slow motion. They got probing attacks where they drive a brigade head first into overwhelming artillery, air superiority, and mines to test the defenses (the defenses are good) and, presumably, will follow up on that probe at some future point. They've liberated like 8 villages where almost a thousand people (total) used to live, they're blowing up bridges into Crimea to isolate Russian supplies and prepare for their big offensive into Crimea over the bridges they just blew up, they're starting an ambitious new conscription of every male between 17 and 60, its just victory after victory for Ukraine
