The overall lack of fireworks is disappointing.

I don’t know how the Blazers go into the season with Simons, Sharpe, Scoot, and Dame.

Scoot is still a great consolation prize, describing him as such may seem absurd a year from now.

You can't stop what's coming
If the Hornets re-sign PJ, DSJ, Miles, then ink Miller / Nick Smith and get the second-rounders on two-way deals, that’s basically their roster:

Ball / Rozier / Hayward / Miles / Williams

DSJ / Cody Martin / Miller / PJ / Richards

Nick Smith / Bouknight / Bryce McGowens / Thor / Kai Jones

If everyone stays healthy they could maybe get back to the 40ish wins of two seasons ago, and they’ve got a decent mix of vets, good young players and upside guys. I’d be more excited with Scoot but it’s not all bad

Lame that Sacto didn't get to rock the Murray twins, but also cool that they made $13m in cap space to help sign Vezenkov, extend Sabonis, and find a replacement (or re-sign at a discount) Barnes.

The Bulls have a solid amount of options, if they are willing to pay the lux tax. It just all comes down to that.

Between the Bi-Annual, the MLE, and the DPE they have a nice chunk of change to add 3 role player shooters.

If they decide to blow it up they could trade Derozan, Caruso, Zach and jump start a rebuild. move to get Lonzo's contract completely off the books and yeah, let Pat Will figure out his limits.

If they won't pay the tax then yeah, they can't really do loving poo poo with this roster.

I don't partake in sports betting, but if a "journalist" who's partnered with a literal casino is tweeting out incorrect information that moves the odds on Scoot from +480 to -700 (which is a GIGANTIC movement in the betting line), that feels like the kind of thing gambling regulators might take an interest in.

Niwrad

The Bulls best option would have been to sell off last season at the deadline. They may have kept their pick and would have gotten something for Demar, Caruso, Vuc, and Lavine. But it's tough to sell another rebuild after your previous one led you to a play-in game and no future draft equity.

I was just kind of broken by the following factors:

1. The DeRozan/LaVine/Vucevic trio seems to pretty conclusively be less than the sum of its parts at this point, and my priority would be to get rid of Vucevic first since I think he's the least important player of that trio, but they kind of have to keep him (or pray someone's interested in taking him in a S&T) because letting him walk doesn't open up any cap space
2. The easiest key piece to move is DeRozan, but he's maybe the most important to actually winning games and you'll probably struggle to get fair value back for him because of his age and weird game
3. Similar deal with Caruso, who is incredibly important for winning but needs some stars to align for a trade to be worthwhile because he's pretty one-dimensional
4. Coby might suck but you kind of have to bring him back too because he flashed in the last couple of months of the season and you'd be kicking yourself if he pans out somewhere else
5. The MLE-and-below free agent market is hot dogshit. If you're lucky the big piece you're adding is, what, a guy like Seth Curry? (And given the lack of urgency this front office has shown when it comes to adding shooters you might not even get that lucky.)

I do think there is a plausible positive step forward for the team, but it's such a tight needle to thread that I have a very hard time imagining something good actually playing out irl

More than any other player in the league, Devin Booker has so much in his game that reminds me of Kobe Bryant, from the general numbers, to the footwork, to the occasional game where even other huge star players will watch with an almost religious reverence. "Point Book", conceptually, feels pretty analogous to those Kobe teams from just after Shaq left. He's about the same age now as Kobe was then, too.

Except where Kobe was too aggressive with his penetration, Booker hasn't forced the issue in the same way and cares about his teammates getting their shots off.

one to two of them are gone(minus dame). Probably before the first of July. If none of that works, Ant plays on top of scoot's shoulders as the teams center until February, where a team contending leverages the farm for Damian Lillard.

Most likely.

On one hand I get where this sentiment is coming from, on the other Shams’ whole stock and trade is based off being correct and reporting rumors before they happen, which are often literally being disseminated by self-interested parties trying to manipulate front offices into making different moves, often their own. Plus, the risk for one betting line for one of the most respected nba journalists in the league (possibly the most, depending on how much stock you put into the perspective that Woj is super vindictive and petty and how cosy he is to specific agents and organizations) just doesn’t make logical sense. We are talking about a move that would very definitely kill his career, probably get him sued, and possibly have him speak before congress as they levy a whole shitload of regulations on the company he works for and the nba as a whole.

Plus the logic of the rumor makes sense - every draft board said Scoot was p much objectively the better player than Miller, but in the Hornets’ defense Miller played the more difficult position to find in the NBA and had less question marks about his future potential. Both choices are defensible ones for Charlotte to make, and I’m willing to bet (no pun intended) a fair amount of money that the rumor that Charlotte was seriously considering drafting Scoot was a last-ditch effort by the losing side in the Hornets organization (possibly even one of the new owners who was outvoted or something l) to try and swing public perception to their side. Occam’s Razor states that it’s way more likely that that or something like it was the reason Shams got the erroneous rumor rather than some extremely weird hidden conspiracy to manipulate one money line on one bet for a glorified prop bet on a relatively unimportant sports betting day.

The protection on the pick was really light something like top 4 or 5 protected. At the deadline they were 10th in the east and the race to the bottom was already between the Spurs, Hornets, Pistons, and Rockets. At the time the Bulls had won 10 more games then any of those four, and there was no way they could catch up enough to dramatically increase their odds.

So by blowing it all up and conveying the 11th pick after getting to the playin games, they would have missed the playin games and conveyed the 6th pick instead. Doesn’t make sense. The Bulls best option was always going to be take their medicine, convey the pick, and make moves post draft. But there is no meaningful way to improve the team this year, and so treading water is likely the way to go.

My assumption here is Suggs' agent told him it'd make sense for the Magic to move him if they grab more guards and Doogie looked for the highest profile team known to be shopping their pick, because engagement. Also to smokescreen the true move, Minott and Moore to bring Suggs home :v:
