Chigusa arguably was as over or more over than Hogan in the 80's to the audience By the time of the Bull/Aja though the main audience was mostly adults and they couldn't replace the teenage girl and it was one of many reasons why the company started to go down hill in the late 90's

Chigusa and Asuka somehow ended up as pop idols, which in turn drove teen girls to go to AJW shows, and so of course, AJW makes them horrified for the Crush Gals’s lives almost every step of the way. Amazing booking. And of course, Dump and Chigusa were best friends, suffering through the horrifying dojo together and a toxic locker room and disparate fame paths nearly tearing them apart. Wrestling is the strangest thing, where the closer you are to a person, the more willing you are to let them potentially maim you for life.
