First time I've seen an American goldfinch at our feeder.

No other birds are messing with him. He's been there for the last 10 minutes. The sunflower seeds are all his.

Crappy phone pic of a random friend I met on the walk to the bus stop today. A Great Blue Heron, I think? A neat change from the usual ducks I see hanging out in that ditch.

Dude, ix-nay on the oice-vay.

Bird’s like,”omg! Your plumage is beautiful!”

The ruby-throated hummingbirds here are always curious when I change clothes, since I’m usually wearing my pajamas bottoms and a black tank top when I go out to the deck, where their food is.

So when I’m wearing real clothes, I get several hovering birds, just checking out the new human until they determine it’s me and that the feeders are still safe. It must be weird to birds that we change our plumage so often.

Also, the top female does NOT like my migraine glasses.

one of them kept flying down to the same spot in the corner whenever i turned away. so i looked more closely and someone had put out bowls of water and goldfish crackers for them :3:

I heard y'all like birds. I used to post pictures in here from my buddy Tony. Sadly, he doesn't photo much anymore. But guess what! I got a camera and I've been taking pics. So here's some of my bird pics.

I'll post some more every now and then. Maybe not every day like I used to, but I'll pop in.

If you can't wait for me to post, then check out my albums here. https://imgur.com/user/CorvusTwig/posts

i've seen birds stick their rear end over the edge of the nest and blast like a little kid jumping on a toothpaste tube

I don't think this is true for hornbills, but in some species of birds the young produce fecal sacs which lets the parents easily remove them and keep the nest clean.

There was no colony in my area until maybe 15-20 years ago, now there's hundreds of birds nesting on little cliffs about a mile from my house.

Pick-your-own event off as fruit eaten by birds

quote:

A pick-your-own cherries event at a National Trust property in Cornwall has been cancelled after blackbirds ate all the fruit.

Due to be held on 28 June the event was set to span over five days at Cotehele, a medieval house and grounds in Calstock.

But Laura Jarman from the National Trust said 80 trees had been cleared of cherries as they had been "feasted on by very cheeky blackbirds".

She said the cherry orchards had been blossoming since 2004, but in the last few years there had been a larger amount of cherries.

Ms Jarman said: "We've been very excitedly planning our pick-your-own cherries at Cotehele.

"On Monday we were getting the planning in place and checking the cherries were ripening and Wednesday morning the gardener came to tell me they'd all gone.

"Eighty trees' worth of cherries have been feasted on by the very cheeky blackbirds."

She added: "They're so cute. we don't mind too much."

Ms Jarman said they were still planning to hold an apple picking event later in the year.

I had a similar thing happen recently with a dove, heard a noise coming from a plant on the front porch, took a glance at it and saw this.

Yeah we had balconies at our old office and pigeons would build a nest consisting of like 2 twigs. I think urban pigeons are only able to sustain populations by volume, since 95% of the efforts we saw ended in failure.

That’s very kind of you to hang that lovely dove nest up there for birds with learning disorders.
