This is my guess for if they are missing something, I actually ascended into that shrine from below with a Zonai platform since i couldn't find an entrance from the top. I get the impression there's a way to make visibility better in Thunderhead but I've never discovered it and I'm stubborn

It's part of the final quest line. You're not meant to get to it early.

I ended up getting it way early just randomly recalling a block that put me right next to the main shrine and quest starter.

I did my first labyrinth and it was mostly incredibly cool

the dive from sky to depths was one of my favorite moments in the game so far

a bit disappointed with the reward for how long it was,
ganon's pants?!?!?

The rewards suck, but the experience is cool at least.

Still got a fun "Oh what the gently caress!?" moment in the Hebra Labyrinth running around avoiding the Gloom Hands like a Pac Man ghost until I got to the center, then started taunting them from behind the bars. Que activating the doodad, getting the message that the Sky Labyrinth was open, and looking around and seeing the sudden absence of bars, producing a feeling like being at a zoo and suddenly noticing there's no actual glass between you and the tiger enclosure

That's not what gaslighting means you hyperbolic dipshit.
I haven’t read all of this thread and I’m sure it’s old news by now but I just realized something about the overall formation of Depths:

The landscape of the depths is just an inversion of the overworld map, right down to the ground heights and everything. Neat.

Yeah that spot was the first time I encountered gloom hands. I got to the end of the labyrinth and was standing around at the shrine deciding what to do next. Then the scary music kicks in and Hands come ripping around the corner like SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER. Finally get them down after a few tries and SURPRISE AGAIN MOTHERFUCKER Phantom Ganon lol. Was so good. The brief horror game vignettes when you don't expect them are fun.

Sky labyrinths should have been ten times cooler. Combat, turrets, traps, anything...what of the walls in certain hallways start closing in on you? Instead you're just bored making your way to terminals and you don't even get a shrine for your troubles.

Not as a reward for the labyrinth, you can do it before even gaining access to the labyrinth itself.

Yep, that was it. Just amused myself finding it in zero visibility with regular lightning strikes on my escort (Mineru has a mace hand atm and I didn't put her away because I thought it was funny).

The reward seems... strangely Ganonlike? Red hair, forehead jewel etc. Was it an early design for a Zonai proto-Ganon? Conspiracy theories ahoy, I daresay.

The rewards for doing all the labrynths seems like rear end at first, but it's actually a ridiculously busted set even if you can't upgrade it. A full stealth set that also stops Stal enemies from bothering you, AND a huge damage bonus for any weapon you slap a Molduga Jaw on? Combine that with a Gerudo or Zora weapon and a food buff and you're doing some of the biggest numbers in the game

Isn't it the hero from the ancient murals in BotW? I always thought something might come out of him having some weirdly Ganon-ish vibes, but I don't think anything ever did.

The Bone set aspect of it is the same, each piece provides Stealth Bonus, but you can't upgrade it at all. So 4* Radiant set is probably preferable.

Could be worse, the first time I encountered Gloom Hands was at the bottom of the Deku Tree which was basically an arena fight. That caused some reloading a few times before I won.

There are one or two places on the map where there are two shrines right next to each other so that they might look like one shrine in a zoomed out map or there’s a shrine right next to a temple so the temple icon obscures the shrine

Does anything cool happen if you have Mineru when doing the Hyrule castle section and have the official phantom ganondorf fight? I already had the master sword and it wasn't acknowledged.

bawk
Mar 31, 2013

The game does check for stuff like that, but only if whether the quest it's about to give you still needs to be done. For example, I followed the sage quest lines all the way as-intended until it was time to get the Master Sword, at which point Mineru said "okay you will need the sword of evi--oh you've got it sweet, go talk to Purah then"

It lets you do pretty much anything out of order wrt the main quest and logic won't break, but there's no bonuses or special events if you've done the main quest backwards AFAIK

Finally finished the game. Did all the main quests, shrines and lightroots. Loved the final boss sequence and all the story stuff, very cinematic. I do have one gripe -- Mineru feels like a pretty wasted character, hell she doesn't even appear much in the dragon tear scenes. I laughed during her post credit goodbye scene because of how little I cared. I really think she should have been a companion character like Midna, Fi, Navi, red lions, etc. who you meet at the end of the sky island tutorial. It would have been a nice thing to bring back given how much of this game brought back some classic Zelda tropes and whatnot. As long as it isn't annoying like the complaints about Navi and Fi.

In case anyone cares, I remember thinking it was odd that Lightcast Island didn't have a shrine on it, and I was right, it was odd.

This means the only shrines I cheated on where the 'keys of water' one and the one where you had to match orbs to the circles on the ceiling. Which I falsely assumed would have the answer in another shrine because I think one like that existed in BotW? anyway gently caress both of those
