Also being on good terms with the mercs kinda pays off really well, as someone pointed out before, because Monolith really dont like you wrecking them, and will try to get mercenaries to murk you, which results in having a whole bunch of heavilly armed dudes following you around, not shooting you and obliterating anything else that appears. sadly, as for whatever reason, Ecologists and mercs are now at war, but my persomnal standings trump this.

Does anything ever happen when you get the messages saying that someone has taken a hit out on you, or are they just for flavour?

Never noticed anyone hunting me, though by that point generally everyone who might take a hit out on me is getting shot.

There are definitely hit squads that will come after you, and often times you'll get a warning prior to their appearance. Like "I just saw C.O.P. in Rostok; I heard a Monolith squad was looking for him, so he better look out!"

It's possible that you leave the specific part of the map they're headed to before their lazy asses show up, or they get wrapped up dealing with mutants or an enemy faction before they ever get anywhere near you (probably the most common outcome, like Monolith showing up by a populated part of Jupiter and immediately getting attacked), you might be wearing an outfit that they identify as friendly when they spot you, or their AI simply bugs out and they have a change of "heart".

Time for some new mods to recommend!

Increased distance for object detection increases the distance at which items are highlighted when holding down F from 5 meters to 20. Very much a handy little addition of convenience.

The Collector is, at its most stripped down, an extremely handy way of tracking if you have a piece of equipment in a stash somewhere. It can also generate a small sum of money every couple of minutes depending on the size and quality of the items in your stashes. Amount and frequency are fully-customizable in the MCM, I turned all of that off because even if the default values are largely unremarkable pittances of roubles, making a passive income on a bunch of guns obsessively hoarded and crammed into a footlocker doesn't make much sense to me. The item tracker functionality is a game changer, though.

Utjan's QOL Bundle is being included in the next GAMMA patch, but it's worth grabbing now for two new additions to the bundle. It has the previous QOL bundle improvements, like showing total uses, fetch tasks show your items, category weight, and scroll sort categories, but the new ones are showing an item's condition percentage over the bar, and part condition to the right of the bar.

Just look at this.

Genius.

These bits of QOL may seem small but they're a big deal to me. I've played STALKER for so long that its long in the tooth engine and all of its worts seem part and parcel until some modder comes along and changes something that I never realized could be better.

Thanks for the QOL pack, thats amazing, Yeah, for some reason or another I chose to wipe out a couple of bases, the Monolith in Pripyat, Bandits in both areas as well, so I regularly have either large groups of Mono or groups of "friendly" mercs following me around, its cool butI might go back to before when I was a little more peaceful and less genocidal.

You sadly can't pay a mechanic to do it, but the DIY way is exactly like that yes. You can also unpack the recepies files and change what's necessary and how much

This time I decided to break out of my usual STALKER pattern of doing too many low-level quests in cordon and the swamps and garbage until I get bored and stop playing. So now I'm very low-level and underequipped and just got done with Agroprom and oh god it's so hard and scary and then you leave the underground and you pop-up in a Military base in the middle of the night and I just managed to scramble over the wall in a panic as they were shooting at me :supaburn:

I did pick up two Basic Tools in this expedition picking up stashes so I should be able to start getting some better equipment now.

Techs will start selling army repair kits once you donate them a set of basic tools, won't they? Or does that take advanced?

I know I bummed around the south so long that my main guy started selling them before I found a gun to take them, anyway.

I believe turning in basic tools to a tech will only give you access to buy historic repair kits. That's still a nice boost in power at that early level and lets you repair decent semi-auto rifles like the SKS and pump shotguns. You can even repair up a SPAS with a historic kit if you wanted a semi-auto shotgun and don't mind the iron sights.

You should always keep a set of the highest level of tool for yourself since an update made the higher tier tools backwards compatible (i.e. advanced tools can now craft all basic tools recipes and thus superseding the need for basic tools). You can turn in your extras tools to technicians to raise their supply level which unlocks better items for sale and also raises your rep with their respective faction.

One thing to keep in mind with basic tools is that there's a recipe to turn multiple basic tools into a set of advanced tools so you might want to hold on to those if you intend to go that route.

ah yeah, thanks that makes sense.

I just had a quest bug out in a funny way. I had to rescue a hostage, appropriately called George Loser. When I got close to the place a blowout started so I had to sprint inside, but as I was runing inside I heard gunfire. George Loser was standing there among the bandits, fighting them, while a bandit was sitting on his knees on the ground with his hands on his head, doing nothing. George Loser and I managed to kill the bandits during the blowout, but because he somehow spawned wrong I couldn't free him. I could give him companion orders, but he didnt show up as a companion. I walked to the quest giver but I couldnt hand over George, so sadly I had to reload to before I got the quest. This time George spawned correctly and I was able to save him normally, in less dramatic fashion.

Having a silenced weapon does make it a lot of fun to sneak up on bandit groups to take some of them out from a distance :synpa:

Utjan busting his way through with even more UI improvements.

Utjan's Item UI Improvements includes his previous additions (that being condition percentage and part condition indicator) but now is not only extended to your equipped gear, but includes a few new tasty morsels: ammo box short-name, (un)read indicators on recipes/notes/maps, and a new mags redux must-have: magazine ammo count and bullet name.

according to my map there's someone in this little building in the hill that I need to give a package to, right next to the church in the great swamp, but as far as I can see there's no way to get inside?
You can kinda look through a crack in the doors but the doors aren't interactive. Is there some kind of secret tunnel or is it just bugged and someone fell through the roof or something?

I don't believe there's an accessible area through those double doors, unless it's maybe pointing you to the graveyard area above it? If the quest marker is for an NPC, maybe he fell through the map in which case save/loading or leaving and re-entering the area will sometimes reset bugged NPCs for me.

Nice, getting your first looted gun and armor back to working order is usually the moment where the GAMMA crafting system clicks. Repairing things like exo armor involves a couple of more components, and the artifact crafting is a bit of its own thing, but I'd say you're past the main barrier of entry.

Use one stash as a teleport & icon and build chests near it. They have significantly more capacity and are cheap.

Assuming you're playing GAMMA, in MO2 search for "Unlimited Stashes Weight" and tick that box. I would caution against it, as the further you go beyond 400kg the slower it takes to load the stash's inventory, and the longer any load takes, the chances of crashing increase.

EDIT: Besides, with multiple stashes and boxes you can make yourself a cute little workshop like I did in Skadovsk :3:

 it was just a badly described mission, and there was a tiny box hidden in the bushes on top of the building that contained the package that I had to give to someone.

I sneaked through the wild territory at night, taking out an encampment of sleeping mercenaries on the way, and now I've arrived in Yantar. MAybe I'll set up a camp here, I want to become friends with the ecologists :3:
My silenced AK-105 with the red dot is great, and now I've got night vision goggles too. Also two 60-round magazines :getin: I also bought the artefact melter but I don't have armor where i can wear artefacts on my belt yet, maybe I can upgrade my current armor.

Very confused why there were more soldiers walking around the Cordon (not to mention two bloodsuckers), but I already have an AKM rifle and a sniper rifle, so I can't really complain. I'll probably follow the Shadow of Chernobyl story progression route and head for Rostok now before veering off on any tangents.
