Methanol also has to compete with ethanol to bind with the enzymes that break it down into toxic compounds, so as long as there's a good enough ratio to actual alcohol in whatever you're drinking you'd probably be ok. One of the antidotes for methanol poisoning is just good high strength booze, because it gives your kidneys enough time to excrete the methanol before your body metabolises enough of it into formaldehyde and whatever else it is that fucks you up. i dunno if its the same overseas but here the difference apart from the specific shot/beer is you drop the shot into the pint and make a fuckin mess with the car bomb but a boilermaker is just a shot you have with your beer
