In actuality this is a most likely a nothing story, but when things inevitably turn south, it will get brought up.

Why does free agency start on the 30th if most players can't sign a deal until July 6?

Yea that seems like a bad idea. Guess he’s trying to cash in on a soft guard FA year. I liked him on the Bucks, but then I had to watch him all season on the Kings, and I did not like him so much. Plus apparently he didn’t get along great with the team, and same with GSW, so who knows where he’ll end up. Seems like one of those try hard type of people who also need everything catered to them or else they decide they’re not happy and need greener grass. Welcome to Toronto or Miami

He'll get near non tax mle for 3+ years, seems like a no brainer to me. Worst case scenario is he gets paid same for multiple years, he is a positive player on a playoff team. There's probably 10 teams lining up for him

In theory those days are for negotiation, since officially teams aren't allowed to (legally) negotiate with free agents until July 1st. But that seems like something more often honored in the breach. Under the new CBA negotiations can "officially" begin with free agents a day after the Finals are over I think.

Hey, if you miss ball, the WNBA season is going strong. 3 games on the schedule tonight:

Breanna Stewart on the Liberty one of those cant miss players currently and kicks off the night:

Here she is dropping 40:

The W has corgis:

Have a little week 5 that was highlight reel:

https://twitter.com/WNBA/status/1673741402528792597

and so you can watch that first highlight a few more times:

https://twitter.com/Ballislife/status/1672802971023822849

Please take no notice that all the highlights in this post seem to be vs the team from Indiana...

SA has W thread here if you want to GDT or see N/V or whatever!

Watch! And as a bonus sales tactic here, the entire season League Pass is only 25 dollars. You can't beat that price for the ability to watch great ball all summer.

DiVincenzo started for like half the season, shot just shy of 40% from three, and was good on defense. I'd want to get paid too especially if I was only 26 and had just shown I can stay healthy.

Donte will get signed but, again, he's a very hot and cold role player with a Jae Crowder attitude so you're probably not getting exactly what you thought you were. People already forgot this winning player turns into a pumpkin come playoff time

I never understood why Donte thought he should be allowed to take 27' heat checks when he was shooting 2-9 in the game.

Mortgaging your future for a roster with a mediocre ceiling and then failing to live up to even those meager expectations...they truly belong here

I get why they weren't willing to take a lump and accept a lost season this year though; it's not like there's gonna be anyone good available at the top of the next draft

quote:

Whether James Harden comes back or not, Tobias Harris for Zach LaVine is my favorite random, hypothetical, one-for-one trade that needs to be put into the universe but probably won’t happen. Even though it’s likely to avoid the tax next year, Chicago does the trade to get off LaVine’s salary without taking a significant hit in short-term production and then has the option to essentially start all over next summer and rebuild through free agency, with DeMar DeRozan about to become an unrestricted free agent. The Bulls don’t operate this way because they’re stubborn and depressing, but if Philly is willing to throw in any kind of draft capital, they should probably do it.

from https://www.theringer.com/2023/6/27/23774588/2023-free-agency-preview-players-teams-to-watch

this michael pina dude has impossibly stupid bulls takes, yes the bulls are bad and hosed up so they should just salary dump their best player for an expiring.

I'm pretty sure LaVine and Lonzo are the only contracts the team is committed to for 2024, so the idea of salary dumping Zach to "rebuild through free agency" is really funny. "Come to Chicago, we've got one guy on our team and he cannot walk"

Yeah, it rarely worked out that way. If was always kind of a nice wrinkle on young teams though.

Hashtag Banterzone posted:

Doesn't really help them though. Higher FA salaries just mean lower more money taken out of escrow on existing contracts. The pool of player money is always the same regardless of how many big contracts are out there.

This change was probably more about stability. Owners sandbagging makes it hard for everyone else to plan and most players don't want active in season trade markets. It sucks for the rank and file to have to uproot. Tightening up the free space helps with that.

It seems like everyone here is making the exact same typo, which is odd; the name of this cookie company is clearly Crumble Cookies, not Crumbl. Dropping the tailing 'e' would suggest a playful irreverence and disregard for the norms of conventional cookie bakeries, almost as if Crumbl is dedicated to bringing a fresh spin on the staid, well-trod cookie experience by providing not just delicious recipes that change every week and cater to every taste, but unique, oblong-shaped boxes that make them recognizable and Instagrammable, perfect for posting a sweet review, boomerang, or photo on social media.
