I was watching simpsons at 0.75 without knowing until a scene where homer and bart were getting back massages at a hotel and the noises they were making were super drawn out like a youtube poop

Honestly that's pretty advanced for a pigeon nest.

Yeah, after examining other pigeon nests online I have come to the conclusion that I am fostering some brilliant pigeons. Mom and dad are continuing to modify the nest and the thing is actually starting to look like a proper cup.

I figure I don't have to do anything to help them. Any intervention on my part would probably just be more stressful for them than anything. Also I have to be really quiet when watering my outside plants now.

Do you like sparrows? How about babby sparrows?

We've had a ton of fledgling house sparrows around the feeder and yard the last few weeks too. They're really adorable and awkward.

I've seen some of the sparrows doing little mating dances (?) around each other a few times, it's adorable :3: two in particular looked like they were dancing a little do-si-do for a few seconds

This pigeon nest is officially in the top tier of all pigeon nests.

It's ostensibly nest shaped.

It incorporates found floral craft items such as baby's breath.

That sick rear end feather flag in the back.

Speaking of pigeons, the mysterious ghost pigeon (aka almost entirely leucistic) has decided to join the local pigeon gang gorging themselves on my bird feeder.

Yeah we had balconies at our old office and pigeons would build a nest consisting of like 2 twigs. I think urban pigeons are only able to sustain populations by volume, since 95% of the efforts we saw ended in failure.

This is absolutely how a lot of birds work, yes.

I'm posting my least favorite bird because this swan chased me for like half a mile while I was kayaking and beat its wings on my kayak at one point, then it seemed to have stopped so I took this picture, and then it started chasing me again.

I don't know anything about that bird, but I'm going to assume that's a mating display.

"Hey look how fast and scary I am, we should do it"

"Okay okay! I'll have sex with you, drat!"

"Aw yea, we're gonna do it" *bobs his head up and down*

God, I love woodpeckers.

There used to be a big electrical transformer under my kitchen window (they moved it) and in the spring, a northern flicker would sit there for hours yelling and drumming on the metal to establish his territory. I loved him.

Dude, ix-nay on the oice-vay.

All recently fledged long-tailed grackles are demanding. I feel terrible for their moms.

The flock by the Walmart near one of my old jobs had a pied piebald male. He would actually help feed his demanding children. I think there ended up being quite a few more piebald grackles in that flock the following year. Smart guy, getting the lady grackles by being a supportive dad after the kids leave the nest. I did not see any other males doing the same.

Although I did see another male grackle loving a rock after multiple attempts to interest some lady grackles in him.

The ocean is calling and I must go

It's not just grackles. I've watched fledgling sparrows sitting on the bird feeder, surrounded by sunflower seeds, loudly demanding their parents get other sunflower seeds and stuff them into their mouths.

Gulls are really funny because there will be gangs of scruffy grey teens hanging around in groups, and the second an adult lands anywhere close by, they will go mob it, all doing the "I'm a wee hungry babby" dance, shrieking and begging until the adult gets exasperated and flies off.

I've also seen this at my feeder with house finches and cardinals. I even once saw a slightly older fledgling cardinal help feed their slightly younger sibling who was insisting their mouth doesn't work and why won't someone feed me?!

Fledgling season is the best part of summer because they are all hilarious awkward weirdos.

Young gulls do this to other species. I've seen them doing the 'feed me' dance to a very unimpressed crow that just sat there staring at it.
