I had a physics professor named Slaughter. He did research on explosions  His class also slaughtered many GPAs because, for all his apparent brilliance as a researcher, he was one of the worst teachers I have ever had.

A few years back in WA state there was something on the ballot related to affirmative action & was eye opening how well organized the Asian American community was in opposition. I hadn’t known how those policies could unintentionally place Asian applicants at a disadvantage in college applications to the degree it was a major problem (or at least perceived to be). On a lighter note regarding admissions a dirtbag (white) classmate with rich doctor parents who had gone to an Ivy League got him in as a legacy not considering how he’d function without them being nearby to do his homework or to literally bail him out of trouble. They were able to make his minor in possession & lying to cops arrests go away, but after the freshman he sold coke to nearly died he got kicked out & did serious time. On the other hand, Black guy I knew in college grew up in poverty in Missouri with around 7 siblings, got into a prep school (same one as Lowtax lol) and then onto an Ivy. One spring when he was talking to his Marine recruiter seriously deciding between a Goldman internship offer or OCS. Recruiter told him he'd be a complete idiot to not take the offer. Now he's been in finance for almost a decade so everything seems to have worked out?

First one died at the scene and less than an hour later someone who witnessed this happen went "yep I gotta get me some of that"
