They could honestly combine messiah and children into one film to get to god emperor because of folks knew where the Atredes story arc goes… I’d also love to see the reaction.

Villeneuve has mentioned once or twice that he wants to make this a trilogy with Dune Messiah as the third movie, and hell I'd settle for a book-faithful adaptation of Messiah. It'd be the first major motion picture made specifically for me.

Well I wrote this in the Dune thread when it happened but my brother was walking into a building to pitch a script (he's a filmmaker) and Jason Momoa was coming out at the same time and he had just been cast in Dune and he was freaking out and screaming for joy and running around pushing on cars and poo poo and it occurred to us that he probably wouldn't be that excited to get cast as someone who dies early on in a movie

My ray of hope is that Chalamet absolutely seems a weird enough dude to be down for it, more in the vein of Elijah Wood, Daniel Radcliffe, or Robert Pattinson in that he’d be willing to take on some messed up roles for kicks

I haven’t seen Crystal Skull in a long time, but new one is probably better. I don’t think it’s better than Temple of Doom. Temple of Doom is kind of weak, but it still has an in-his-prime Indy/Harrison Ford, which counts for a lot for me.

Does it have a lot of quick cuts so Harrison Ford doesn't have to do a lot of action shots, or are they just pasting his head on a younger actor's body?

The action is cut pretty frantically, but it’s hard to tell how much of that is cutting around Ford and how much of it is is just modern action editing in general. Other than the opening sequence featuring a de-aged Indy, I don’t recall many instances where it looked like they were doing face replacement on elderly Indy. The big action set prices are largely pretty forgettable and kind of confusing, though not moreso than the average modern blockbuster.

I was listening to the Unspooled episode on Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom and learned Ford herniated a disc, so all the fights with Indy against stuntman Pat Roach were done with a body double.

Well our problems are deep and institutional but the money train never stops. Politicians get rich constantly both while investing in office and again working as K street consultants. It’s not an accident.

It’s really gross and endlessly bleak.

Meanwhile our social systems (inadequate though they were) and infrastructure crumble and we get to watch them shovel money into Ukraine nonstop.

But it’s all fine, Joe Biden got like 35 boomers cheaper insulin, so all is well.

I can't remember how much I've shared, but I have one sibling, and they moved to work in Europe last year. Great opportunity, will likely be able to stay there forever. My dad is now solo in the U.S. (mom died almost 4 years ago, gently caress cancer forever) and when we all got together over here in May, he told us "neither of y'all have a reason to move back." He's hardly a DSA member, but just can read the situation in terms of quality of life, the opportunities we have and (for me for the moment) how raising a family will be easier and better here versus back home.

Considering the thorny knot of "leaving my wife to solo parent for X days" and "traveling with a toddler" it's a bit unclear when I can go visit home again, but I hope I can within a year or so. It's been too long.
