Thanks for this. I’m one of the few who never watched their videos, and I’m just starting to dig through them now. The Joad Cressbeckler series is a scream: https://youtu.be/0iqktCdX0hs

I've read The Onion since around 2001 but I hadn't watched the videos in about a decade or more, so many good ones. It can be hard to read the headlines scrolling at the bottom but they're almost all gems, like in this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXQTaWjMoFw Where one just says "Scientists find all humans descended from ancient slut" so matter-of-factly that I had to pause the video because of how hard it made me laugh.

Literally Unbelievable is a great collection of people taking The Onion stories at face value. I couldn't find all the abortionplex reactions, but those were the best.

I've never seen Sex House before, and I'm glad that was mentioned. The payoff is worth it.

Porkin' Across America also had a great, and disturbing, payoff. I think it's all on YouTube.

But I remember when the Onion was in dire financial straits and didn't they almost have to shutter? Anyway their future news series is the best and I used to really like click hole content, but in the spirit of this thread I'm not gonna link or embed anything. 😂

There's a thread over in PYF with links to a lot of the greatest hits. It'd take a while to go through all of it but it might not be a bad way to spend some time.Dr. Quarex posted:As someone who was reading print editions of the Onion in 1993 it hurts me to read the video era called the early years BUT I am also down for a thread so kudos anyway I haven't been at it quite that long but I definitely remember when their front page was just a list of all the articles they'd ever published online.

Our Dumb Century is the funniest book ever written, I’ll chuckle remembering little jokes like “Edward Teller Pleased with H Bomb, Calls for weapon capable of destroying sun,” or how during WWI the British cucumber sandwiches were ineffective weapons.

I spent my formative teenage years reading “Our Dumb Century,” it’s still great. Why did they stop making videos? The movie was fun, haven't seen it in ten years, wonder if it holds up. At the end it just shows a clip of a nun sitting on a park bench drinking from a jar labeled ape cum with no context.

I’ve got way too many Onion books, including both Century and World. I need to complete the set. The video about Obama and Romney’s internet search histories in the build up to 2012 was amazing. “Must the President look at people?” “Blood child. Blood on the child” “Who will betray me?”

My favorite Onion article though was when Citizen's United was passed in the supreme court, and the article for it was just a completely straight article like you'd see on these clickbait political websites. Appropriate.
