Still think it's weird that Reddit didn't just come out and say they want to kill third party apps, seems like it would have made a whole lot less work for themselves.

Imgur is getting rid of porn but Reddit has been trying to force hosting images themselves for some time. There's a site called Red Gifs where a lot of adult content gets posted too, I think it got popular because it allowed MP4s maybe while I don't think Reddit or Imgur did? In this case Imgur removing NSFW content is for the best, because unlike Tumblr a lot of amateur porn that is posted is not by the people in the pictures and obviously posted without consent. (I'm sure Tumblr had problems too but I personally didn't encounter it.) So Imgur removing NSFW content will likely purge a lot of nudes of people that were posted without their consent. On Reddit since the changes you'll see a mirror selfie of a nude woman with a post like "25F I'm insecure about my body what do you think?" And then when you click on the profile it's all sorts of porn and the comment section of the post is guys saying "DM me"was one day when I logged in and the top post with like 2k votes was revenge porn of someone I knew in high school, from when they were in high school. I heard the stories of her ex posting pics and that was 100% her. I reported the content as being illegal to the admins and mods and dropped my NSFW account after that. Come to think of it, I've talked a lot of poo poo in this thread, but I between Reddit and Tumblr I hooked up with a handful of absolute freaks in my 20s thanks to those sites. That all completely stopped when Tumblr turned off NSFW, and Reddit started allowing people to post their own monetized adult content. Reddit allowing people to do that is probably for the best rather than only allowing bots to post most likely revenge porn but now you have both and it's all spam. Some non-porn subs are still NSFW so it still bubbles up in the feed if you have 18+ turned on. Gonewild is really the only sub left that strictly forces posters to verify and does not allow monetization. It's actually awful, the app doesn't ever load subreddits for me properly and kept recommending poo poo subreddits I would never use for music I don't care about. Even after telling it to stop recommending me the subreddits it still did until I muted it. It didn't even let me keep viewing content, for me it just gave up loading content so I'd have to load up a 3rd party app just so I could read more posts. I swear it's the only app I know that just gives up and tells you to stop doom scrolling

funny thing is they didn't make their app from scratch they were originally website-only, then they got into app development by buying out the at-the-time best / most popular third party app, named Alien Blue then they just applied years of manager / bean-counter meddling to make it shittier and shittier with every update
