That's actually what I assumed.

how do you play with flick stick and gyro in your first person games? I know how to set it up in the controller layouts, but I'm not sure about thee mechanics of how you actually play with it. Is the idea just that you can circle around the edge of either the trackpad or joystick to smoothly control turns (while also snapping to face any direction); like are you just constantly snapping as you walk around for every turn, or are you just always holding the stick up and rotating to change your view. I know it's named flick stick, but is it better on the stick or track pad?
I think the idea of flick stick is its always relative to whatever direction you're facing when you first hit the stick. So like, you hit left and you turn 90 degrees to the left, rather than just turning left at a constant rate, and then if you keep it pushed but turn it downwards then you're facing 180 degrees from where you were facing originally? (that also means you need to calibrate the controls in the game for it to work at all because its giving the game weirdass inputs) Its also only horizontal rotation so you need gyro to aim vertically. I don't care for it, personally.

If you're using the trackpad, just use it as mouse in trackball mode imo, its by far the best way to aim on this thing.

How do you uninstall non-Steam games, just remove from Steam then delete the files from whatever folder they got shoved in?

Thanks! I jumped into bolt gun to give it a try, and I guess I can see how it could work, and it definitely feels awkward still, but I think the way it worked (or at least what I gravitated towards) was circling the stick for horizontal looking as if it were my mouse. So to turn right, push up and then circle it clockwise to 90, (or however far until I'm looking where I want. essentially instead of moving my mouse left and right i'm circling the joystick from up clockwise and counter. I could also still "jump" directly to any direction, but you miss too much and it can be annoying after a while if you're exploring and want to actually search the level so I prefer "sweeping" to me they direction, basically hotline Miami but I'm first person view

I had to send my Steam Deck off to a local specialist who can hopefully solder on a new bumper microswitch after it and the entire loving middle joint came off but if anyone knows where Valve keeps the secret stash of left button daughter boards hook a brother up.

Mine's the original Deus Ex. With the steaminput options it felt more comfy than kb+m with touchscreen inventory tetris.

Probably Ur-Quan Masters which looks great, sounds amazing, and plays much better on a controller anyhow.

Yeah I need one too, going to try to solder a new one on myself. If that doesn’t work I’ll find someone local to help.

I took one look at how tiny the three joints were and just said nope. If your joints are intact you can probably get way with solder paste and a heat gun but the middle joint on mine was actually removing itself from the board.

I just got my Deck back from an RMA for the right bumper crapping out. Seems like it’s an unfortunately common issue.

I believe the excuse has been they can’t sell the daughterboards because they need to be calibrated at the factory or something. Hope they can figure that poo poo out.

Jeff is super enthusiastic about lots of games. They're just not always the games people want to listen to someone be enthusiastic about. A lot of people don't really want to listen to him talking about Call of Duty. He's extremely high on Street Fighter 6 at the moment though and also loves a lot of weird poo poo. Listening to Jeff talk about Jeff Minter's latest games is always particularly joyous.

Have to remember that Jeff has been at this a long time, particularly in terms of the front end journalist bit. Maybe as long, if not longer, than anyone who hasn't already checked out or headed in a different direction? I feel like Jeff has an increasingly low tolerance for the AAA hype cycle stuff, which admittedly probably doesn't come across well on a weekly podcast where they're obliged to cover whatever the hot new thing for that week is.

So it looks like the Steam version of FFXIV is on sale. I usually play on a PS4 but I haven't been able to play in a few months because I've been traveling for work. Has anyone had any issues with the Steam version of the game, specifically? I've seen a lot of people saying to avoid it?

I think a lot of the concern is coming from it dying when steam dies. I used this guide and it seemed to work out pretty good https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck.html

The reason people say to avoid the Steam version is just because you can get better prices on the non-Steam expansions and you can't mix and match licenses, once you activate it either on or off Steam you're there forever. Otherwise they're exactly the same and work just as well on the Deck.

Does anyone's right stick touch stop working intermittently? That's my enable gyro and randomly while playing I'll notice i no longer have gyro and have to "retap" the stick two or three times to get it to work again, and if that doesnt work, I can tap the trackpad (which also enables gyro as well, and my right stick touch automatically works again. No consistency as to what I'm doing when it happens.

Edit: nevermind just ordered the new gulikit solderless sticks instead.

Yeah, but he also comes across as someone who's willing to at least hear the pitch for a game. Like he was super psyched about the Super Mario Bros Wonder trailer on the pitch of gently caress yeah let's put weird poo poo in a 2D Mario game again.

Anyway apparently GamersNexus is getting spammed about the SD card thing too.

In actual Deck stuff, I got Ghostrunner in the sale and while I need to spend more time dialling in performance options this might be an awesome Deck game after the first 2 levels. Also yeah official Drock is good, having a second official PSU is also super nice because if I go on a trip I don't have to gently caress about pulling the cable out of the TV setup and can just grab it from the charger pile. Also not having the Deck flopping about and being held super snugly is nice.
