I'm suspecting that this is either paid government propaganda to support bond sales, or Williams doing some spontaneous patriotism. Children this age did, in fact, buy war bonds in significant numbers, but rarely in quite the way shown here. The lowest-value Type E War Bond was faced at $25, and were generally sold at 75% of face value - you got the full face value when you redeemed it after maturity (which, if I'm interpreting this correctly, was when the variable interest rate on your initial 75% hit the face value, not a fixed timeline). Outright buying a bond the way Goldie? is here would cost $18.75, which means he saved $16.75 in his own right - or, in today's money, $312.52. That's a bit unlikely for this age group to have all at once.

The more common way in which schoolchildren bought war bonds was the stamp method, where you paid 10¢ for a stamp and stuck it in a book. Once the book was full, you took it in and exchanged it for a war bond. A kid finding (or being given) a dime a few times a week is far more accessible, after all.

Hardy is going Demons of Baseball insane on his ultimate spite-filled revenge against this woman for turning him down because he's short and then turning around to his "advances"(creepin'), which he believes is only due to his success and income as a pro baseball player now.

So I think some combination of "Like I'd marry you, thot", "I'm poor now lol" or "Actually Hardy I did fall for you but your insane spite has driven me away again" will occur. He's gonna try to pull the rug out from under her and well, Demons of Baseball sure doesn't do predictable.

I gotta post that I really appreciate this picture.

Not only is Count Weirdly on a custom hog, rudely disrespecting a tortoise, but a loving snake is striking a bat out of the sky.

And also the difference to spot is a minuscule mismatch in the far-off backdrop to the scene.

Nah, Funky mentioned his anxiety to Summer about the store failing and needing to close soon. But instead of the story taking the time to maybe help out its titular character as a final send-off, Batiuk wastes the rest of the comic's runtime with the stupid time janitor poo poo and how Summer Moore was the Chosen One who will write the book that'll change the world forever.

The smug, self-aggrandizing back-patting in this one is so irritating. The comic made a point about safety with Mark and his dad wearing masks, so you'd think this is going to have them helping people who are too stunned or unconscious to get to safety. But no, they just took a 10-second shaky footage and bounced off without checking to see if anybody needs help. And it's not like there aren't gonna be 20 other people filming it already, so it makes Mark look even stupider. :argh:

And you'd think the strip would do something clever like Mark having already uploaded the video to the cloud or something, but it can't do even that.

It's that blank, gormless look on his face, the one that says there's nothing going on up there. His girlfriend could go up in flames right in front of him and he'd still have that same blank look on his face.

The other part is that all of this is happening to Gunther. Team Evans clearly means for him to be A Nice Guy and Bets as this wild, vain girl who only cares about her social media presence who Gunther should ditch for A Nice Girl (like Luann). We're supposed to think Bets is a pain in the rear end who keeps doing all these over-complicated schemes and pushing a road trip on Gunther without his consent, except it just makes Gunther look like a horrible boyfriend who can't even take care of his girl right.

It also makes Gunther seem really weird and sexless. Now if somebody is ace or low drive or whatever then great, but since the character never discusses it and cares for Bets and wants to be together with her and he's a 20 something year old guy... yeah, he always seems weirdly inconvenienced and bothered that a cute girl keeps approaching him. His girlfriend of I dunno, months, half a year, whatever. The strip of them lying on bed looking overwhelmed by apathy was hilarious.

But Luann itself is super weird and sexless and looks hilariously stupid when it flirts with the idea of flirting so there you go.
