The limits appear to be that individual letters can't be crossed out to make new words, and sentences cannot be combined. Really, this should just go under "item vetoes are bad".

In 2008, the voters again amended the constitution to prohibit the governor from creating “a new sentence by combining parts of 2 or more sentences of the enrolled bill.”5 The gov- ernor could still veto an entire sentence, or parts within a sentence, but could no longer create an entirely new sentence from parts of two or more sentences. This is insane.

Seems like it would still be permissible to strike out a "not" and completely change the meaning of a sentence. The legislature would have to be incredibly careful with the wording of the bill with that kind of fuckery in mind.

I think Beau is generally good. And he makes a great point here about USSC shooting down the “Independent State Legislature” theory. Not to say the USSC as currently composed, is the “Good Guys,” but if they’d gone the other way we’d be looking at a much different reality today.

Not in the least bit surprised this is the route taken.

I don't expect this to get better, and I think any other Twitter clone, be it a Zuck effort or something else, will meet a similar fate because there's no way for an aspiring billionaire tech bro to serve up a social network that caters solely to small networks of close friends and make money without shoveling ads or clickbait at them. I hate to say it, but MySpace circa 2004 is probably about as good as social media was ever going to get, and even that isn't that great.

Mastodon does alright but it's basically roll-your-own Twitter clone. The infrastructure is owned by the individual groups that host instances and they can choose to federate with each other to see the others messages. Smaller, more insular, but it works alright.

Imo early instagram was pretty great when people actually shared, but now it's business accounts and a cesspool of ads and reels which I hate because they draw your attention with a quick dopamine hit. A good social media platform should account for the longevity of data and posts. Dare it say it but 4chan got it right with the auto post deletion. No point in archiving posts by default unless you or others intentionally want to save it. I hate going thru reddit and seeing newbies ask common questions when a google search easily finds a good effortpost. Not too familiar with discord, but is this what it essentially does?
