I'm a sucker for job simulators. I have a few hundred hours between American/Euro truck simulators, and maybe a dozen each in Farming Simulator 22, House Flipper, PC Building Sim, Tank Mechanic, etc. They are pretty chill and I can listen to podcasts or music or whatever as I play them.

Hahaha, one of my neighbors bought a little princess bounce castle and she was trying to rent it out for an absurd amount, like 300 a day or something, now I know where she got the idea.

It's really, really great. They really do an amazing job of either throwing in a new mechanic or new type of thing either right when you might be getting toward bored or right when you aren't bored at all, but you are comfortable. Like "great, have it all figured out, just going to [event happens that throws off your plans]"

The irony is that I'd actually be okay with a little grind here and there. Give me 2-3 days without events to just target-fish for some dishes or grab some ingredients, let a man have a little grind, you know, as a treat.
But then there's another cook-off event in two days and I need some Humboldt-squid and agar to beat some Italian snob-chef's rear end, and I'm already looking forward to the minigame. And the day after, there's a dining event for the shrimp-fans, and I'm like "hell yeah, I got a ton of those, lemme research a new shrimp-related recipe and grab all the ingredients I need".

And then it's three days later, I go "okay, that was fun, now what the gently caress was I doing again?"

I’m so glad the Switch is ultra friendly to this approach. Play for a bit without needing to use the tv then can hit power button & it saves my exact location. Also have been a little quicker to use TotK YouTube guides, I like the puzzles but glad to have it made clear I had the right idea, was just using the wrong kind of water.

Yeah through my playthrough I was quick to check on YouTube guides and etc for the really sticky stuff or excessively-buried stuff. But my biggest problem was trying to figure out a stopping point on the laundry list of to-do items that game has.

I finally got around to the System Shock Remake and it's very similar. Game will absolutely not hold your hand and tell you what's next, you have to figure it out. And that could be rough after 20-22 hours, then trying to figure out just what the gently caress was next.

It's the first game where I actually used the Steam Notepad feature for codes, notes, and etc when I got tired of scratch padding them. Been a while for a game like that and it's wild just how good the remake turned out to be. I kickstarted it with expected delivery in 2017.

My wife got me an Anbernic handheld emulator out of the blue a few months back. And I felt bad cause like, i'm not an emulator playing person. So I had to explain that i'm not sure how much i'm actually going to use it, cause that's not the kind of games I play.

But then I was looking through it (a friend of ours pre-loaded it) and Legend of the Dragoon was on it and it had easy save state save/loading and so now I take that to work for my lunch time instead of the switch like I was.

I’ve actually been gaming more now that my son has been interested in it. Granted, we are playing couch multiplayer games appropriate for a 5 year old, so mainly Nintendo. He really likes the 2D Mario games and we’ve been slowly going through all the newer ones(wii through switch) that allow 2 players at the same time.

I just introduced him to Smash Bro as a early birthday present and thing to do while we were stuck in a hotel during PCS. He is comically bad at it and it’s super cute. I put the bots on the lowest level and do the time settings over the number the lives so he gets to play the whole time. It becomes a race against if I can kill the bots more than he can fall off the map. He loves every minute of it.

What's the best emulator for GameCube? We have a Retro-Pi that can handle like twenty different systems but GameCube apparently had hardware acceleration in the console that it can't handle. Wife is talking about $80 or more for original cartridges for the one she pulled out of college-era storage. I want to just set up an emulator for it and ideally the original controller in USB maybe to save us hundreds of dollars.

Gamecube can be emulated by dolphin (but there are no arm builds i know of, only x86) but are you sure about carts? Gamecube uses discs for games.

The decision by Nintendo to not have the entire catalog of best games from GC, Wii, and 3DS to which they own the rights for sale for like $15 a pop would be less baffling if they weren’t straight up allowing porn games to be sold in the eShop.

Get one cheap 1L pc, like a optiplex usff, or a android set top box (Dolphin has current builds for windows, mac and android). With the price of two games you will be in the black.

We actually have an old-rear end laptop mostly used as a Netflix-connection to a TV, doesn't do anything else. I'm looking at putting this Dolphin on it then getting a USB version of the controller and :filez: for the games. With Zelda blowing up like it is Wind Waker is going for some absurd price, like 80-100 or more and I'm not gonna spend that much on something that old that I can get for free.

Aliens Dark Descent has some technical jank but is very good and feels like a mashup between XCOM, Darkest Dungeon and an RTS. I've sadly never played the Alien tabletop RPG that Free League Publishing makes but supposedly it shares a not insignificant amount of DNA with that. First Alien game I've bought since Isolation.

Yea it’s a lot of fun. Got me back into finishing painting my minis for the Another Glorious Day in the Corps board game :)

Also seems to share a little bit of DNA there too, I’d love to see some of those in-game maps adapted to the /board game.

Those are striped catfish, and I remember the first time I ran into them. I was in the shallows, and about 30 hours into the game, so I expected absolutely no threat whatsoever and went "awww, look at this school of fish, that's so cutOH MY GOD THEY'RE COMING AT ME".
A "warning sign" is when you drop into the ocean and get the biome version that's chock full of seaweed, which is the only biome where they (and, I think, the Sheepsheads) spawn, and if you get that biome, you should actively seek them out and hunt down every single one of them, because 30 of them are required for a very niche ecowatcher milestone that'll otherwise hold you up in the endgame.
