This is most disturbing. About five hours ago, I was watching Paramount+ using the Amazon app on my blu-ray player. And had been doing so for several days. I went to sleep for a while and now I’ve come back to watch more DS9, and suddenly it says “This device doesn’t support a subscription to Paramount+. Subscribers can still watch this title by using another device.” The Amazon app on my phone will still play it, as well my desktop computer, but the player won’t. What in the gently caress e: God drat it, I tried the other blu-ray player and it says the same thing MrMojok fucked around with this message at 15:52 on Jul 6, 2023 |

Man “Explorers” is good. Sisko trolling Dukat. O’Brien telling Kira she sounds like a Romulan. O’Brien and Bashir bawling Jerusalem and discussing their love. Hammock time (yo!). Dukat fuming as he congratulates Sisko. Classic of DS9 for me

Sisko's character in particular is hugely enhanced by his longterm rivalry with Dukat. There are a lot of TNG episodes with killer guest stars where at the end I'm like "boy, that was great. I wish that character was actually part of the show."

It's always fun when the more minor villains get a meeting with a more major one and get the win in that altercation, like when Weyoun and Kai Winn have that little moment of "I have a feeling we are far more alike than you initially thought." *Winn grabs his ear, gives him a condescending look* "No, we're not.  "She's just so infuriatingly passive aggressive and he gets the (Liquidator) Brunt( FCA )of it and it's so much fun.

It's also impressive how willing they were to allow A-stories to be carried by secondary cast members. The Magnificent Ferengi gets a whole crew beyond just Quark/Shimmerman. Odo has a big role in the Improbable Cause / Die is Cast two parter, but Robinson shoulders a big load. Robinson also basically monologues the entirety of The Wire. Grilka/Mary Kay Adams dominates House of Quark. Alaimo, Fletcher and Combs always turn it up when they're in an episode. Martok/Hertzler is terrific in Once More Unto the Breach. The producers/directors put a lot of trust in them, deservedly.

I wish that character was actually part of the show." Barclay and Ro hit a similar point, but for the most part you're right. DS9 has a lot of people who you believe are around the station and constant even if they're not on the episode. TNG doesn't really give you many people on the ship who feel consistently around outside the main cast. Although Nog often isn't really on the station, and I feel like you don't get much of a sense of Jake having any presence.

There was plenty in TOS of the Enterprise crew deciding that they were right and the aliens were wrong, but they didn't put so much work into cultivating a fall guy. And the Ferengi being always wrong and stupid makes stories less complex.
