 My aunt woke up this morning to find a surprise visitor in her gated and locked front yard, he has no collar, tags, or microchip, she can't take him for various reasons, neither can I because I'm moving overseas in less than a month, but the local animal shelter is closed for the 4th of July. Also it's supposed to be like 106 degrees this afternoon and, being the 4th of July there will be a ton of fireworks outside so fingers crossed that he's housetrained because he's spending the night with me.

That happens every 4th of July. If nobody has checked the sesspit that is nextdoor, that seems to be where I have the best luck locating the owners of stray pets within a few hours of the pet being lost. It may take a lot of scrolling. I even, once, pointed someone who lost their cat to another message regarding a found cat that happened to be their cat. Neither of them had seen the other’s message, but both were nice enough to include a picture.

I think that's likely, he seems pretty well-trained, had no problem jumping in the car when we took him to check for a microchip, and he's decently groomed, his claws look like they've been trimmed professionally. He's very thin though so I think he might have been on the street for several days. I just posted about him on nextdoor, hopefully we can find his owner. A dog comfortable around people and with being inside isn't a rough livin' gal/guy. And a dog running from abuse is sadly also going to show that. Your might have to ask your guest a couple neighbourly questions more, alternatively the neighbourhood newspaper
