I've been involved in a number of cults, both as a leader and a follower.

You have more fun as a follower. But you make more money as a leader.

I guess it’s a formula based on the number of moves you do in total and maybe the variety, how much hidden health you have left over and the time of the match (although it’s unclear whether it needs to be long or short or in the middle).

I did an easy mode casino battle royale just for shits and giggles and won with like 16 eliminations, I got 6 stars and an A+ in everything

Anecdotally I got a 7 star doing a Lights Out match where I was trying to hit as much variety of moves and tons of moves on thumbtacks.

Are there any branches of the campaign where you're the one choosing to recruit people to your stable?

It's a minor nitpick but it'd be a fun change from every wrestling game's story mode being "Oh wow, such a big opportunity to work with a huge star!" Let me get to King poo poo of gently caress Mountain status after Act 1 and spend the rest of the time ruling the place.

Cool cool real cool that the final match of RTE is of course a four-way so you just loving lose. Great game.

Nonsense. I have not yet begun to defile myself.

For that one I just took advantage of the fact that no one can really kick out if they're sufficiently beaten up (even if they fall down from weak attacks). Threw someone out of the ring at the end of the match, turned around and knocked everyone else down with dropkicks, stole a pin on the last guy before anyone could get up

It doesn't really work when the 3 CPUs just gang the gently caress up on you and hit you with like 5 signatures/finishers in a row and at that point that's basically nothing you can do. I know it's a loving skill issue but I'm still pissed off that they made this god-awful CAW system that forces you to play these stupid matches on the highest difficulty so your CAW isn't completely useless in other modes.

Just buy the infinite special buff and spam finishers on everyone....is what I'd say if I wasn't extremely skilled and able to win legitimately...

I got lucky in the final match because Kenny was just lifting Mox up for the One Winged Angel as I was pinning Jericho so there was no way for either of them to stop the pin.

It's one thing I do like about the 2K games; in multi-man matches, if you're just out of range of the opponents, they forget about you and just attack each other.

Cool. I usually win by picking my shots and downing everyone at the same time or I go for the pin when the others are locked in an animation. It's not so much a skill issue as it's uniquely a you problem because what you describe doesn't match my experience or those that I witnessed. I think your copy might be cursed. Better buy the game another time.

There's plenty of valid complaints to be made about the game but I read your posts and I'm not sure you are talking about AEW Fight Forever. If you hadn't mentioned that the caw mode sucks (true) I'd think you're talking about Balan Wonderworld or something.

Having cleared Road to Elite (going unlikely partners > Death Triangle > Barbed Wire > Face Yourself) and getting a C for going 13-5, winning the tag but not world title, etc, I have the following pros and cons, imo

Pro: I love the city stuff. The meals, the sightseeing, that's so much more fun than just getting a small piece of text randomly selected saying Raw is in Sheboygan this week.

Pro: The stories themselves are fun, the writing (at least for whatever character voice Hangman has) is pretty humorous, and I like that losing doesn't just make you restart.

Con: the four stories all seem very siloed from each other. Like at the end of story 1 I won the tag belts, never came out with it, never mentioned it, nothing. There's no real segues or whatever its just 4 good short stories that you play in order.

All in all, pretty fun!

I loved the Dark Order stuff; seeing the Dark Order room from BTE, Brodie yelling for his papers, etc. The game's roster is definitely outdated but it hearkens back to those early/pandemic days of AEW that I loved so much for keeping me sane.

Always remember that the former President was dumber than the dumbest person you've ever met by a wide margin

My first run of RTE ended with beating Mox in a barbed wire death match, then saying I was going to destroy the Elite. I beat Dustin Rhodes, lost to Cody, beat Kenny, then lost to the Bucks in a handicap match. Kind of a deflated ending but I enjoyed it overall.

I'm replaying it now as Shida. Won the women's title on the first Dynamite, had a good win streak until I lost to Riho, and now John Silver asked me to join the Dark Order.

Yeah tbh No Mercy’s story mode is most memorable for its onslaught of grueling handicap matches against the APA and New Age Outlaws and Right to Censor (many memories of climbing onto pool tables to cheese the ludicrously unfair backstage brawls). Also no matter who you pick, you’re clearly meant to be Stone Cold based on how you talk.

Of course it isn’t clear if the glut of multi-mans in FF are an intentional nod to that sort of design, but it is commonly the case with hardcore nostalgists that the legacy crutches and bad design decisions of their old beloved games get wrapped up in the same golden glow of memory as the things that were actually good about them. There are still ppl who insist that THAC0 and save-or-die resistances were good D&D systems worth championing, because the games that were fun weren’t outright ruined by them.

Sorry for being so titled , it was a supremely lovely night for unrelated reasons and playing a series of really frustrating matches pissed me off and I was venting hard in the thread when I shouldn't have.

Honestly I think a lot of my issues with the game (besides the CAW stuff) are me being used to the way modern WWE games play and just not being prepared at all for a game where so much of the gameplay is completely different.

Okay genuine question: if I go through RTE a second time with the same CAW can I keep the final skills from that run or is a CAWs stats locked forever after their first run?

Perfectly said. Nobody's favorite thing about No Mercy was the lovely handicap matches. I couldn't believe they felt like that was a good thing to revive and pay homage to. Might as well make the game randomly delete your data just like the old days.

Some things I do wish they brought back from that era is the ability to steal your opponent's taunts by waggling the joystick, taunts that are specific to pushing the analog downwards, and being able to put someone up on your shoulders for a doomsday device whenever you want.

I'd also like to see them scrap the current tables and take another shot at making them fun to use (in a sequel, I don't expect that as a fix). I don't think I've ever actually put someone through a table in this game. You should also be able to stand on them and jump off/do a piledriver up there.
