The flyer was barely controllable as is. The Wright brothers were probably just angry about patents because Glenn Curtiss was needed to make airplanes remotely practical.

I think pointing to the fact that the wrights made it to the end of their flying careers mostly without incident ( selfridge) is honestly one of the best shorthand answers to why they beat anyone else to the air—just ridiculous patience for doing things the slow, methodical, painstakingly repetitious way. They logged more hours in the glider than many less-surviving pioneers did in a whole career The wrights really seem like they were constitutionally incapable of loving around, and therefore never had to find out, even in as jank a machine as the model b, is what I’m saying

(Cross posted from Cold War AirPower) What is this? Spotted at the Evergreen Space Museum hanging over their SR-71. It’s not on the map and my kids were ready to go so I didn’t have time to ask a docent.

I think it's a drone that was supposed to be launched from the SR-71. Edit: Nevermind, that was the D-21, a different thing. Cojawfee fucked around with this message at 04:03 on Jul 8, 2023 |

At least seven aircraft built by the Wright Brothers are known to exist. 1903 Flyer, at the Smithsonian Wright Flyer III, in Dayton Two Wright Model A, one at the Museum of the United States Air Force, one at Smithsonian Two Wright Model B, one at Smithsonian, one in Germany The Vin Fiz Flyer, at Smithsonian Take a guess at how many Wright Bros bicycles are known to exist. Five Dayton is home to three of them. Two are at the Wright Brothers Museum at the building in which they worked from 1894–1897. The Museum of the United States Air Force has the distinction of possessing the only Wright Bicycle for women. The Smithsonian Institution has one on display at the Capitol Mall—it’s on loan from the Henry Ford Museum. The Ford Museum has a bike on display in Dearborn, as well as the relocated buildings of the Wright home and the brick & mortar cycle shop they operated out of in the years 1897–1908. I’ve got to believe that there are a few extant examples mouldering in obscurity in barns, but it’s still crazy to me how few are known. So guys, as some of you know, I've been reading through most of Playboy's run I look for the usual stuff Cultural Artifacts: Tinder Profiles, fashion ideas: Sexy RV Ads: Ancient wisdom: Things that were a joke on Archer and I was surprised to discover were real: The origins of certain idioms, like 'OG' or 'Karen' as a selfish monster woman: Fashion (again): You know, the usual stuff. Anyway, it's also given me some questions I just can't answer. Namely questions about sex. sex and airplanes Like where new aircraft come from. Do aircraft cheat on each other? The video I linked is only seven minutes, but I am shook. What kind of airplane is mom, anyway?

well you see, when a mommy airplane and a daddy airplane love each other very much they do this and then a little while later this happens we're not entirely sure where the people in the front come from though, so it's still an active area of scientific research.

Saw this interesting unmarked 777 at Hamilton today. I’m guessing it’s a passenger 777 that’s being converted to cargo, the planes behind it belong to Cargojet. I regret not getting a photo when CWHM’s Dakota taxied past it.

OMGVBFLOL posted:how hosed does an alcoholic beverage have to be to not meet fuckin american labeling standards for "beer" Bavarian Purity Law of 1516 has far-reaching effects. Malt beverages have the same regulations in almost all jurisdictions as beer, except for weird places that regulate beer specifically, so "malt beverage" is allowed to do things that "beer" cannot. Like have sugar and caffeine added.
