Given that you get the opportunity to murder him with any weapons you choose within 30 seconds of that very decision, not so much! You can, of course, just keep giving him second and third chances if you really want. You end up going to the same places anyway, but for different reasons. It’s pretty well thought out.

They could've just had it be a "punch" and not an actual, in-game, damage-calculated unarmed melee attack. Have Benny get pissed, but not pissed enough to kill you and maybe you get taken to some back room by his goon squad. That's it, just make it a scripted event instead of "Whoops I punched his brain out of his face!" Interesting though, your punches don't have the same effect against his goons after blowing his skull up. I wonder if dialogue attacks count as "sneak" attacks and that magnifies the damage. Yeah also there's the fact that by giving the player an option to attack him directly is going to make most players ignore the alternatives. Because as far as videogame logic goes you have to go around exhaustively talking to NPCs clicking through every line of dialog they have, to find the option to convince Benney's gang that he is betraying them and his plan will gently caress them all over for his own benefit. Which leads to a trap where the player's obvious default choice inevitably leads to slaughtering the casino full of lightly armed hapless bystanders who don't know they're supposed to be on your side, and are not aggressive/violent/evil/fascist/etc enough to make for a feelgood mindless karma-positive massacre.

I was completely dismissive of networking as a dumb nerd but goddam, making friends has been so much more useful a skill than any technical ability I had as a 'smart kid.' If someone is a lifelong modder that hasn't landed a proper game/programming job out of sheer social inertia they have problems. Boris, Arthmoor however many others. No amount of talent, ability or insight is a substitute for the ability to work well with others.
