The other day I stated that the O’s would never score another baserunner. Since then they’re 5-0 with a +35 run differential over just those games, proving me to be a big dummy.

Sydin posted:Only the case if the don't sell, and that's not a given. I feel like the FO is going to have a really hard time justifying holding on to guys like Stroman or Bellinger who will absolutely bring back quality trade returns when they're seven games back of the division and the Reds appear to have no interest in slowing down. Bellinger was basically signed for that purpose. And if the FO doesn't plan on resigning Stro then you absolutely have to flip him. But because it's the Cubs, they'll do nothing and let both of them walk at the end of the year.

The Cubs have a pretty soft July schedule with 8 (!) games against the Cardinals. They’re either going to talk themselves out of selling with a decent run or kickstart the Cardinals resurgence and get Ross fired. Either way, the results will be funny and enraging.

No, they'll trade the guys, but for cardboard cutouts resembling baseball players. We have to make sure to dial in the correct incompetence on this team.

maybe there should be some kind of system in place so young international players don't end up taking the kind of deals where they're totally fleeced later but that probably goes against the leagues morals

I, for one, am enjoying this push to make people care about the draft. How long til it's back to being a closed door thing in a board room?

A few weeks ago I was angry texting with my buddy and I complained that the Mariners were entering the ASB with a giant skid mark on their pants. But yesterday I amended my claim because it is clear the the skidmark has the visage of Jay Buhner contained within it. DR FRASIER KRANG fucked around with this message at 17:17 on Jul 10, 2023 |

bawfuls posted:Every time I read the name Jay Buhner I hear it in Frank Costanza's voice He was fun to watch & I remember listening to the game he hit for the cycle. In one of the Griffey N64 games he had I think max power but a tiny hitting circle so a bit hard to use. I believe he’s mentioned in the new season of the Bear in a discussion about baseball cards. zoux posted:https://twitter.com/benjstrauss/status/1678409021517099010 Huh not good apparently they’ve had a dedicated sports desk since the 1800s? Although seemed inevitable as there was so much overlap. Hope Athletic gets a new Mariners reporter, their coverage has been lacking and they used to have great exclusives like breaking down the Cano trade.

IDK that doesn't sound like how sports intersects with money, power, politics, and society at large. It sounds like it relates to games, players, teams, and leagues, of which the NYT/Athletic will be scaling back coverage.
