not gonna lie, a storyline in a steampunk fantasy game where women are executed by being raped by ogres until they die in childbirth is actually what i would expect from very weird and horny men

I mean ok but it's a thing you read about in an extremely dry document, there isn't like an FMV of it

I dunno I don't wanna defend it because it's a fantasy antisemitic conspiracy storyline and a pretty sizable stain on an otherwise good game, I just can't really imagine how it parsed to anyone as horny

Come to think of it this isn't really a distinction I feel is worthy of spending more time arguing on it so I'm gonna go ahead and take it as a mark of personal mental health that I couldn't parse that sidequest as potentially arousing to anyone and move on

I did the ffxvi demo and idk, the gradual transition from pixel-sprite / low poly turn based party crpg of my youth to slick anime cgi single character arpg has been weird and off-putting to me.

I want to like it but if the rest of the game is 20 minute cutscenes followed by 5 minutes of arpg button mashing in a small circular arena maybe I should wait for a sale.

whoever called it Devil May Clive got it imo. it feels fun zipping around doing chain dodges and stuff but that's kinda not why I wanted a ff game

it's an extremely fair preference, there's fortunately still a wealth of classic jrpg material still being turned out today, it's just more of an indie thing. you could also play dqxi in old school mode

They had a contest back just before Arcanums release, where you could submit stories that could potentially go into the in-game Tarantian Newspaper. The top 10 writers would get their stories in the newspaper, and a free copy of the game.

The contest ended, and me and something like 4 other people total worldwide submitted stories for the contest. So we all "won", and I got my free copy of the game.

I don't even recall, but I got several stories in the paper. They were all terribly written, I'm no writer. I think I wrote them in the "voice" of the characters too, so if you see a story that's like "Oi guv, I dun spyed me a robut weerwulf, I did. Nearly topped me gibblers, e' did!", that was me.

I was doing a stint of volunteer work in South America at the time, in a remote area at the time too. I was so bored in my off hours because there was very little to do, so when I did get dial-up access once a month, I saw the contest and started typing up some stories to submit. Several months after returning home, I got the notice that I "won", and where could they send my copy to.

that's cool as hell, looking at them there's a fair amount that hint at storylines but i'm guessing anything not directly tied to the plot was submitted by someone then? there's one about a technology protest that the cops violently put down that seems like you would only need to know the basic premise of the world to come up with

Yep. It was like half the newspapers were canon lore, or led to quests, from the devs. The rest were just flavor stories. The intro of the contest had some basic primer for the races and world, "steampunk, fantasy industrial revolutions, orc rights, etc etc", and then just let people go off from there.

I was most surprised that the stories I wrote got into the paper word for word. I had assumed the writers would tweak things to make them better, and make them fit within their world better, but nope. They just copy and pasted them directly as is.

Unfortunately there were only like 3 tracks used in most locations in the game so you heard the same music like 800 times in a playthrough
