I like to laser boat so it suits me admittedly, but yeah I've run dry enough times on AMS ammo that I'd rather just run the shinies.

I did this in MW5, actually. Hero Phoenix Hawk with hardened armor, Harjel, and a fixed wing. Barely ever needed to land and none of the AI could damage me worth a drat.

Battle armor works great for that in bta. My endgame had a Raven that I'd use to drop ba someplace near enough to the enemy to use their gauss rifles and they absorbed a lot of ineffective fire

If you haven't dove into the non-canon faction stuff that got added to BTA, the Large Lance (S) is the new gamebreaker. Does 30 normal and 20 structure damage, which means it's an instant head-capper.

I've heard a lot of good things about it's FPs/campaign. Been waiting for it to get a little more completed but the maker has been updating regularly and already completed the bulk of his planned story missions.

It's honestly the best change in modded BTA because it keeps smaller 'mechs relevant forever, but yeah it's definitely an adjustment. Remember that kicking removes evasion pips.

I unironically think I'm Garret, Master Thief.
I've only played the first 3 or 4 campaign flashpoint missions, but they seemed perfectly reasonable adaptations that someone has taken some time over. Some historical patch notes about needing to adjust difficulty.

Worth noting that the time limits on them aren't real. If it expires, it'll be back in a month or two.

I think the escort mission (weldry?) was actually impossible up until a patch or two ago but i don’t really do much with flashpoints in bta

I played MW5 over a year ago when I had game pass, and decided to buy it and all the DLC in the steam sale.

Is there a list of QoL mods for that game anywhere?

Any general suggestions or tips when faced with all the new possibilities of all the DLC starting points? When I last played, I didn’t get all the way through the campaign. I wandered around and started getting into heavy mechs, but I couldn’t use too many at once. I wasn’t high enough level for a full 400T drop yet. I think it was usually 240ish.

If there is a dedicated MW5 thread somewhere, point the way, and I can ask there. But I could only seem to find the Mechwarrior: Online thread.

The Yet Another Mechlab (YAML) mod will let you build mechs like HBS Battletech/MWO which imo is a massive improvement over the base game. There are more Yet Another X mods on top of that, depending on how much stuff you want.

Important note, YAML expects you to have another mod downloaded called mod options (should be in the info for YAML). I say this because they have an option called "scary tanks" that defaults to on. It makes fighting vehicle a slog, at least in my opinion, ymmv.

The AI mod that works with YAML is also worth picking up, since it also affects enemy mechs so every fight isnt just a circle strafe battle.

I cant remember if they changed how the tonnage limit works in the base game with the DLCs, or if you need a tonnage limit mod but on my playrhrough I could exceed the tonnage limit for less rewards. Makes keeping mediums/lights worth it.

Theres also other QoL ones like removing the dropship animation, etc.

For the DLCs and career mode, just remember that the Rasalhague and Kestrel Lancer starts will start you with those respective campaigns. If you dont want to do them immediately you can pick a 3015 start and wait for them to pop up naturally.

The only problems I had with flashpoints in general were in the early-to-mid game when I was mostly able to punch above my weight by fielding >4 mechs - the campaign and original flashpoints are set up to only allow four mechs no matter what. It's not that they can't support >4, it's that the BTA devs specifically chose to enforce the 4-mech limit there.

Thanks for the notes. Very helpful, as I remember the AI squad mates only being useful with certain mech buildouts. Most of the times they return with an expensive repair bill husk of a mech.

Also the note to avoid the tanks mod will be nice, as I don’t really want to worry about pixel hunting tanks and helos more.

A big thing with the enemy AI is it focuses whatever mech puts out the most damage in a short amount of time. And even with the AI mods, your teammates are sometimes really bad at keeping themselves alive. Especially if you have them set to follow/weapons ready and move more than 150-200m from them, as they will turn around and try to follow you and let the enemy mechs tear up their rear armor/side torsos.

Another QoL mod I thought of too is the one that gives you unlimited cantina missions. Normally you can only have 6 cantina missions at a time and sometimes they are stuff like "collect 3 atlases and give them to us :)". Which you wont finish anytime soon once you take them.

Not to my knowledge, but they will chainfire/fire in the weapon groups you specify. But they also tend to fire them in quick succession :v:. There is a AI role for different types of long range mechs though, and one of them is anti-air for targeting vehicles.

One fun thing is they seem to be able to target Raid buildings from like 1000m out so sometimes theyll destroy the target before you even see it.

The Baradul collection is a really great start. And yeah, turn off the scary tanks mod and configure YAML tank and VTOL stats to something you're comfortable with. I'd also add a few mods from NexusMods that aren't available on Steam for some reason that Baradul is using in his current playthrough. Mod Options has already been recommended and is only available on Nexus. Coyotes mission pack is the other major recommendation I wouldn't skip.

Personally, I like Stacked Crates as well. I have the rewards tuned to be similar to vanilla in value so I'm not just getting two marauders and an atlas out of a random crate in a 240 ton mission but the mod opens up all the equipment in the YAML collections to be available in crates and, heck, if you want to get a buncha mechs in early crates you can go hog wild.

If I start firing my 4xUAC/5 King Crab at a demolition target as soon as I see it in the distance, by the time I arrive it's at something like 50 or even 25% health. I don't take it out very often though since the ridiculous gimmick weapons from Yet Another Clan Invasion are much more fun.

I had a 4x ac2 bf rifleman that I kept for demolition missions for the exact same reason. Its one of few good uses for ac2s. Fun fact, even if you knock it down to 0% you still have to walk up to the site to get the evac and finish the mission (you have to see the healthbar).
