I will say that’s not as obnoxious as some of the patches

There should still be no uniform patches in baseball at all

Silent Protagonist
Nothing is more representative of modern MLB than the Yankees scrupulously managing their uniforms for a century only to slap a patch advertising the third-biggest flood insurance outfit in New York on there for peanuts.

Thao presented Manfred 30 bound copies of a report to give to the MLB team owners, detailing the negotiations between the Oakland and the A’s, including a detailed timeline. Thao said she wanted the owners to have all the facts about the failed Oakland negotiations before they voted on whether to approve the A’s relocation to Las Vegas.

ah yes, surely the owners of MLB were just not properly informed of the situation in Oakland, if the knew what's really going on they wouldn't approve the move!

It's a proud Athletics tradition to have a local politician threaten the league office when they move. This one probably won't be successful tho lol

please help me understand how this is in any way threateneing the league office when Fisher spent a decade negotiating in bad faith and Manfred has been in the public doing his darndest to say the city of Oakland is at fault and had no plan

It's amazing what they can do with computers these days.

It's all optics. The mayor is showing that she is doing everything possible to prevent the move, and also to show how Manfred & Fisher are lying assholes. Now most people already know that, but sometimes you have to do the politics thing and show up with a bunch of binders to get some press, even if it amounts to nothing.

Oh I'm sorry I'm posting in bad faith. Obviously the ownership group is actively ratfucking Oakland.

I just think the parallels to the creation of the KC Royals are there.

This Alabama baseball betting scandal is absolutely nuts:

Also he tried to place these bets at the MGM sportsbook at the Great American Ballpark

quote:

Fueled by hubris and, perhaps, desperation, Neff – an obscure youth-league coach from Mooresville, Ind., with a penchant for networking in recruiting circles—stood at the window and pleaded his case for making the huge wager to the book’s staff, the sources say. He indicated that he had inside information on the game—and he did, in the palm of his hand.

I might be missing something, but wouldn't a bettor revealing that he has inside information on a game make the sportsbook less likely to accept their wager? He's basically telling them that they're at a much higher risk of having to pay out on the bet.

sorry sir, that amount is way beyond our limit for that event, we don't get enough action to cover that bet

but I have inside information which makes it even more likely this bet will gently caress you over! please accept it!!

Wagering on regular season college baseball is probably a good indicator that you're not great at making life choices. The article doesn't know Neff's other gambling activities, but that he and several others tried to make similarly large bets on this game doesn't strike me any of them being very intellgent and very much in need of a quick payday.
