There was widespread mainstream disapproval when Roald Dahl's books were revised to remove objectionable content earlier this year, to the point where in the US and some other countries the revised versions were shitcanned. I think games are obviously a bit different since post-release patching is obviously more commonplace, and even if games are/can be/contain art, I don't know that anyone's holding up Skullgirls as high art, but it's not completely crazy for people to be concerned about that sort of thing in general, even if they don't object to the alterations in this instance. Not that I think high minded disapproval on artistic integrity grounds is what's going on with most review bombers obviously.

Not that I think high minded disapproval on artistic integrity grounds is what's going on with most review bombers obviously. censorship is a touchy subject, but in this case it's literally slightly extending the skirt length of a character who is constantly flashing her panties, and also removing the armbands from the "black egrets", who are literally based on nazi designs. it ain't subtle:  the removal of the big band thing is the only one I disagree with. the announcer pack makes total sense now that I know it's Mike Z's voice, the entire studio working on it has serious beef with the guy whose voice is used because he's a real shitbag who self-destructed his own company that they all worked at. basically, the two people who headlined the creation of skullgirls, alex ahad who made the character designs, and mike z who ran the studio, are both out, and the studio is cleaning up after them. ahad's designs are skeevy at best, I agree with them toning them down a bit since skullgirls has honestly, surprisingly, gotten a lot more mainstream than I expected it would ever get. I guess skullgirls mobile did gangbusters.

big band being beaten near to death by his cop 'buddies' is still in the game. it's his whole origin story and the reason why he became a jazz themed robocop they just removed an image panel in the prologue of his story-mode showing the cops actually kicking him while he lays on the ground with broken legs bent the wrong way. the text and voiceover is unchanged

some things to come out of the Limited Run Games event: - Tomba is coming to all platforms including Steam using the Carbon Engine - The Gex Trilogy is coming to all platforms including Steam using the Carbon Engine (this is not a joke) - Shantae: Risky's Revolution announced, a revival of a cancelled GBA project that would have bridged the gap between the original game and Risky's Revenge. It's still a GBA game and will be printed on GBA cartridges, but even with LRG's obsession with FOMO, I imagine Wayforward will be able to release the game digitally outside of GBA in all the usual places. Early 2024. - A game called Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore got announced and I'll just let the Wario tweet speak for itself: https://twitter.com/Wario64/status/1679224460447207424 - Jurassic Park Collection announced, compiling the 8-bit and 16-bit games. - Clock Tower Remastered announced, developed by Wayforward, using the Carbon Engine, on all platforms.
