Thinking of a second book featuring our dashing Austro-Hungarian artillery officer where he, following his decision at the culmination of the first book to support the socialist revolution, fights heroic battles and has pages-long discussions and internal monologues about the function of the state and its productive forces. But all against a dark backdrop where he is oblivious that the forces of monarchy are part of the forces of reaction, with his ideological musings becoming less coherent over time. The importance of symbolism is a recurring motif throughout the book. Yet during the climax, with final victory within the revolutionary grasp, our now not so young artillery officer fails to fire on the armored train evacuating what is left of the royal family. The rest of his battery does not and the train is obliterated. Our officer is distraught and accuses his fellow revolutionaries of treason. His ideology has become fully incoherent and possibly reactionary at this point. He is summarily executed by firing squad on the final page, as the rest of the country is entering a new and better age.

I reckon the Ukrainian government is having enough trouble just keeping the lights on, and since they've already been neoliberalized ideologically this is the only solution they can conceive of. He's kind of admitting in the interview that a distributed and privatized system of development isn't capable of the kind of scaling up they need to produce combat effective drones, but it can't all be doom & gloom for the CNN audience.

My analysis on the attacks: Zelensky was upset about the non-news, non-commitment coming out of the NATO summit. He commanded SBU unleash all new drones on the Crimean targets.

And the guy firing the MG42 is still a human made of human. Thus any weapon will work on stopping it, especially any allied weapon.

weird how ukraine keeps attacking the bridge that's mostly used for civilian purposes rather than the actual russian military supply lines

as i understand it a high rate of fire can actually save ammo in the long run because it kinda forces you to fire in short bursts

Attacking a fixed GPS co-ordinate is easy. Attacking something that might move requires training and they're all out of that.

I know you're doing a bit however for the benefit of our slightly troubled collective friends from ahem elsewhere:

quote:

Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science has acknowledged that Ukrainian government forces have used schools for military purposes. The Ukrainian government should deter the military use of schools by, among other things, endorsing the UN Safe Schools Declaration.
https://gdc.unicef.org/resource/attacks-schools-military-use-schools-during-armed-conflict-eastern-ukraine

I don't think much of UN sources on anything since it's an institution under full regulatory capture. But if they're saying it for an "ally" (or lets face it "puppet") then yeah.

Agreed. Its unfortunate that, despite several warnings, Ukraine chose this war. If only Zelensky had been a reasonable person, but, alas.

Here is the terrible secret: there are no catastrophe domes, no contingencies for when the whole project comes down. A few people have some half assed bunkers out in remote areas but thats no more a plan than the prepper in Wyoming totally dependent on ordering buckets of food because there isnt enough labor to set up a subsistence farming community. Nobody at the top has any plan for what comes next. They just do things and assume the good times will last forever, or that should the party somehow stop it simply won't affect them. The ruling class doesn't have a planning horizon beyond their lifetimes at best, and honestly its six months 99% of the time.

I love those "bunkers" which are basically a tin foil shed buried in the ground with some plastic buckets of freeze dried food. Like, that's neat I guess. They'll be fine for the first month or two. Or until the water supply runs dry. Or until the countryside gets stripped bare by the ravenous horse of city dwellers looking for people exactly like them because without uber eats the ignorant masses don't know where food comes from. And of course the 3-12 months supply of freeze fried raisens and breakfast cereals will last the rest of your natural life. Let's hope it doesn't rain and fill up their survival bunker with ground water.

I get the impression that slightly damaging a bridge was the big trump card.

lol since this would have required extensive planning, I think 6 months ago the plan was something like this:

- Glorious Ukrainian Army breaks through Russian front lines
- Cowardly Russians thrown into disarray by brave Ukrainians
- Chaos in Russia
- Hot Dog Man revolts, cutting supplies from Rostov, and driving towards Moscow
- Crimea Bridge is cut
- Russian Army, having lost both Rostov and the Bridge is cut off and must surrender
- Ukraine wins war

The lightbulb went off a few pages ago when someone said Ukrainian narratives do this thing where they talk about things they would like to happen as happening. From the moment of the counteroffensive, there was discussion about the Russian Army falling back because the bridge and land bridge would both be cut. Also, in his article about drawing NATO into a war, Zaluzhnyi mentioned more or less this concept of operations.

Also, it's what the Telegram author was fantasizing about, so presumably people in contact with the Ukrainians were being pitched the rough outlines of the master plan.
