Taeke posted:People hate them for some reason? I dunno, I never minded them. At least they looked different in a not entirely awful way (kinda reminds me of those old cars.) Every time it comes up people bitch about it but nobody ever mentions the Fiat Multipla which actually deserves the hate. From last page but get hosed. The Fiat Multipla was God's perfect car. Amazing view, gearstick in a sensible place, spacious both for people and for objects, basically turned into a van if you took the seats out, and sat three in the front. Every car I have had pales in comparison to the Multipla. Edit: I am aware that it's an ugly car but I don't care it's amazing

When I still lived with parents, one time I was looking to buy a car out of autotrader and my dad was incredibly pushy about how much he thought I should be looking for a PT Cruiser.

Radio Shacks used to have like an entire aisle of remote control PT Cruisers. It was absolutely fascinating. Not cool enough of a car for a kid to want, but they weren't nice enough that an adult hobbyist would want one either. Then again, weird Radio Shack decisions shouldn't surprise me.

One friend of mine owned a PT Cruiser. It seemed like it should've been roomier than advertised. He now owns an early-gen Honda Insight. I guess he has a flair for weird-rear end cars.

Absolute affront to all that is decent and good. Barf.

Amazing view, gearstick in a sensible place, spacious both for people and for objects, basically turned into a van if you took the seats out, and sat three in the front. Yeah the PT Cruiser and Multipla are both goofy looking but they're coming at it from complete opposite ends of the form/function ratio. The Multipla is a very cleverly packaged and supremely useful little car that stows a ton of interior room and functionality into a small footprint (doing a lot of modern CUV tricks a good decade early) while the PT Cruiser was a nostalgic body awkwardly grafted onto the underpinnings of a Neon so none of the hardpoints quite make sense with the car's proportions and you end up with tons of wasted space and a cramped interior despite the PT itself being slightly bigger than a Golf. It has good headroom but that's kind of it. That said even looks-wise I have a lot more patience for bold futuristic Y2K aesthetics ugly than I do for limp imitation of the past ugly but that's just personal preference. gently caress the Multipla facelift where they tried to just make it look generic though.

Multipla defenders are like provincials who defend their out-of-style ugly jackets and stupid haircuts as being "practical", like it's an either/or. At the extreme of this type of reasoning, you'll end up like my grandfather who owned a Lada in the colour of a caramelised turd and could sometimes be caught up to in a brisk walking tempo: "but it gets me from point A to B and it was cheap".

The other reason people hate on the PT Cruiser is that it’s a Mopar from the era where the car was in the shop a few times a year. They’re giant pieces of poo poo put together like it was done in a British factory.

I'm seriously considering buying a 2009 Citroën Berlingo, now that is a weird rear end car as only the French can deliver. I can't help but admire the amount of room they pack into that footprint. I love that subcategory of tiny European cars that double as vans when you need to move a shitload of stuff every once in a while.
