yeah it's a lot harder than you think to repeat gestures and words hundreds of times in a row for hours on end

especially that other girl who's bouncing in her seat the whole time

you look at the top twitch streamers, and those people basically have to be 'on' for hours a day, every day, shouting memes and obscenities like a crazy person, while playing whatever battle-royale shootman game their audience of kids who wear basketball shorts year-round are into. they can't stop for more than a day or two, or a huge chunk of their subscribers will vanish, and even then, if you look at the list a year or two later, it's completely changed.

it absolutely wrecks your sanity, but if you can make some money, you have to milk for whatever it's worth while you can, because it won't last

i remember when lifeblogging or vlogging became things and it struck me as just absolutely miserable having to be "on" and in character every moment of every day and having to look at literally everything in your life through the lens of "how can i use this to maximize user engagement?" 24/7

the only people doing it right are those old dudes who release a video once a month (or not) of the progress theyve made restoring an old boat or whatever and maybe earn beer money from patreon

I miss(?) when meetings were like 80 people with cameras off and no engagement. anything that's full video for a few hours fries my brain, now

I can't imagine. even for ones that film themself playing a game with light engagement, it still has to be engaging. it's like being your own tv show, editor, and mixer all at once while bouncing riff raff and also not sucking at the game

the worst has to be the people who want to be that sort of person for money but just get like 0 engagement or money or interaction out of it, of which I’m sure there are sooo many. depressing to think about.

streaming requires absolute shamelessness or willingness to be a shouty-person

BUT is so difficult to be engaging and entertaining while doing something else

its like standup comedy sorta, its really hard to be good and takes a lot of grinding out poo poo gigs (streams)

but enough about my streams

i normally do, too, the big one were department-wide meetings and too early for me to focus on a video call that could have been an email

I try fully focus, not zone out or do other work, because I appreciate people not staring off in the distance on me. i just gotta push for more breaks between back-to-backs v😕v

rotor posted:

I started unmuting because we get a lot of silent stares of acceptable. someone has to do something! I'd settle for nods
