I gravitated towards the Greens, eventually even joining the party itself.

The Linke is a party I grudgingly accept exists, but I've learned enough about DDR-history I can't bring myself to trust a party that was once the SED, a party leading the corrupt state apparatus ...

Patreon apparently, since they are the ones showing $ for a non dollar amount. This is logged out, so it's very much all on the patreon side.

My first thought after this came out was that Kamrat, as presumably a Swede, should have known that Patreon would display the income under their local currency.

But yeah, objectively it could be they just saw "Dollars" and didn't think too hard

(I wouldn't have expected Patreon to gently caress up currency signs, either)

Sorry, didn't think, just saw the figure and thought it was extremely high, patreon displaying the income with the $ sign is stupid though since Swedish currency should be displayed with kr... I'll shut up for a while and sit here in shame

FWIW Dan's patreon shows up properly as 80K NOK for me as a Norwegian in Firefox but if I open the page in Chrome it shows $80k lol. You decide whether to blame perfidous Google or Patreon frontend devs!

E: OK so I figured it out, I use FF normally and was not logged in on Chrome. It shows the correct currency if you are logged in. If you are not logged in they calculate the sum to show you based on the correct currency (presumably using your locale or some poo poo to figure that out) but just puts a $ there instead of figuring out the right currency symbol haha.

E2: Actually I give up on figuring out the issue, I checked my membership for a creator I back for $5/month and both browsers show 5 NOK/month instead when logged in so who knows what they are doing at Patreon.

You’re good, it was just incredibly suspect when the screens didn’t match—but you posted it because it’s an incredibly suspect amount; if he were actually making that I’d have similar feelings to you.

There are alternatives, but I think most of them cater to the "Free Speech" racist crowd or people making 3d porn . Though I think Kofi has been trying to move into that space, but are still known for just single donations.

Yeah I prefer to just support smaller creators like BobbyBroccoli or Kat Blaque or similar. The only kinda exception that has tempted me is Jenny just because she has so much patreon content at this point. For every other big creator I don't feel bad about supporting a month a year or so and checking everything they put out since the last time I subbed.

Complimentary CuriosityStream (jk but only kinda)

Nebula is nice and its cheap enough being a yearly cost, if you like at least three or so creators who are already on there.
means tv has more regular content but is more costly and less entertaining/less polished (without emailing for sliding scale pricing).

Jenny bugs me because I like her normal content way more than her Patreon content, and I think the Patreon content actively interferes with that. I'm not even just talking about her deep dive stuff because I know those take time. She used to do fun little skits, or looking at weird internet stuff, but she's pretty much stopped doing those types of videos in favor of rambles instead. It doesn't help that like always, the Patreons seem to always vote for the least interesting topics for her rambles.

I think she was going to stop doing those vids either way, and this is what she has found best to manage burn out. Most creators I follow who got big around the same time have burnt the gently caress out if not turned out to be sex pests, so maybe approaching it from that perspective rather than thinking it’s taking away from something that wasn’t going to happen anyway?

i don't think she's given up on all those videos, she's just not rushing to put them out. like there's the beanie baby one, the barbie one, the star wars hotel one, the european theme park one (she's still going to parks and filming footage)

but also if youtube is not covering on revenue much then why focus on it when the patreon is actually where the money is coming in and it's likely because of having so many patreon-only videos

Honestly I feel like this is pretty common with a lot of creators/streamers, where they make good stuff normally, but if you want to support them that goes to stuff that is "worse". Sure if that's what they want to do then w/e but often is presented as some kind of incentive.

Yes, I specifically mentioned that deep dive videos take a long time/effort so I understand the delays. I'm more talking about her little skits/looking at weird internet poo poo. I'm talking about this stuff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHbtaWr6lj8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcLtyRLpr8k

I'd happily still be a patreon if she just made a video about a topic of her choosing every month instead of a patreon voted ramble. Its what I would prefer actually.
