Yeah, it's got a drawer for powder and a control dial with options beyond just 'time', definitely a washer. At the risk of being a derail, why do Americans go for top-loading washers? A side-loader you can put stuff on top, or put it under a counter, and you don't have to lift heavy wet clothes up and out, just sideways into a basket.

Also, side loading washers have worse issues with leaking than top loaders. Side loading washers are common in the apartments and townhouses that come with laundry machines, though.
