I know I bang this drum a lot, but my boys in Grayscale Season just sent me an early mix of their new album and I'm loving stoked for y'all to hear it! I feel like they're really figuring out ~their sound~

i would not be too terribly surprised if TAS call it quits before long. vincent is 40, how long does he want to tour out of a van. replacing a drummer after 18 years is a bitch. devin and griffin have kids now. recon mike only just joined the band, poor bastard, lol. the It Comes In Waves/Failure Will Follow pairing seems like what the band wants to be doing and they put out Slow Decay and Step Into The Light as the "dayjob" albums (not that they're not good, they rule). who knows. sure am glad i have better lovers now with ETID gone and (possibly) TAS winding down

It's funny, I feel the opposite — from Vincent's IG and the PR surrounding their new albums, it seems they've found a really solid groove as a band (despite losing their drummer just now) and could continue for many years.

that better lovers band is garbage. truly worse than the sum of their parts unfortunately.

anecdotally, most of my IRL metal/core friends all disagree on a "base" style (eg. i like deathcore, another friend likes black metal, another friend likes straight up metalcore) but we all always aligned on ETID. but nobody i know gives a poo poo about this new band.

for me, i never liked greg as a vocalist. so i think his sound detracts from the etid style music. but it's also the fact that they're just playing etid style music with a new singer and not doing something unique. i almost feel like i would prefer that they kept the name except i know that's probably objectively the wrong decision for multiple reasons.

wish i could get stoked on it but i can't.

I obvs don’t agree it’s garbage (I think it rules) but I absolutely understand the specific critiques

Would I prefer Keith on these songs? Yes, absolutely unequivocally, lol

But I think Greg fits this sound really well

I couldn't get through the Ghost Inside's latest album the lyrics were so unabashedly cringey - I'm not even a lyrics guy, but good lord they were dreadful.

As promised Couple shots of Fit for an Autopsy and The Acacia Strain last saturday:

The Acacia Strain:

The Acacia Strain seemed in VERY good spirits the whole show. Lots of positivity - maybe they're stoked that their tour is finally over. iirc they basically had 2 days off since June 29th

isn't the ghost inside the band that van flipped? i feel bad for them about that but iirc their lyrics are way overly preachy and i just can't gently caress w them at all

also what camera do you use? i recently got a sony a7iii that i barely use bc im a single, childless adult with too much disposable income. i would love to bring it to shows and get cool shots if it's capable of that.

Those are shot with a Nikon D500, with the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 lens attached. Pretty high ISOs. There's a concert photography thread in The Dorkroom here, come say hi!

holler.
I saw Better Lovers a couple of days ago. I was a bit melancholy when the EP released. Just kept thinking how it would've sounded with Keith. Talked to my dad about how it just isn't the same. He essentially just said yeah bands replace singers and it usually isn't.

Knowing I'd be seeing them I gave the EP multiple listens leading up the show and it actually started growing on me. Made me realize how much I really love Jordan. Seeing him and Steve again really picked up my spirits. They sounded VERY good live. They played another two unreleased songs, one of which was particularly good. I like the band. I will support them the same way I did before. The venue was packed for them. I left afterwards as I truly don't care about the other bands.

Never in my life have I been surrounded by so many etid shirts.

I shoot with an a7III and it's definitely capable. Get a reasonably fast lens and shoot raw, you can crank the ISO surprisingly high and still get usable shots. I haven't done show photography with mine but wouldn't hesitate.

Video's a different beast than photo and tbh I'm bumping up against limitations there, but for reference about 30% of this footage is from my a7III + Tamron 28-75 2.8 (the rest is my buddy's a7SIII + Sigma 24-70 2.8)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB47qZKBoow

This one is very much not -core but the performance lighting wasn't much different than typical show lighting and it's about 50/50 between my a7III and the a7S
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nENg4YQhnY

On-topic: I'm real happy with Better Lovers so far. I understand why some people are lukewarm on them, but it all works really well for me and feels like more than just ETID with Greg on vocals (even though I would've been totally fine with that). There's a lot of ETID dna there obviously, but the melodic sections especially have a different, more post-hardcore feel to them that I dig. Super excited to see where they go, Greg's miles behind Keith as a lyricist (who isn't?) but he's way more versatile and accessible as a vocalist and I could see them going some interesting places.

I'm sure everyone here has listened to this already but the track owns

Polaris' guitarist died last week - they're signed to Resist Records (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resist_Records), which operates as an actual brick and mortar record store as well as record label. this is why i hate twitter. it's the barbra streisand effect. one rear end in a top hat does a lovely thing and now it's the "responsibility" of the whole world to overcorrect and police people's behavior. don't feed the trolls etc.

you know how much the dude who did that probably gets off on getting the attention of the band or whoever posted that? that's the whole loving point.

saw them live with a concert buddy of mine who keeps random notes about people he knows in his phone. my note is a quote i said at that show: "my dying wish would be that dying wish stops being a band"

they were so bad, and the singer's voice was just raspy snarls like a sound you make when you taste something you don't like. there is zero variation in any vocal line in any song just "NYEAGH NYEAGH" the entire time

to make it worse, counterparts headlined. i've already complained about the singer in this thread, but holy mother of heaven that guy is the biggest crybaby bitch i've ever seen on a stage whining the entire time about the audience
